What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"Verizon has great pay and benefits. I like having my own desk."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure to be flexible when it comes to scheduling. Expect to work nights, weekends and holidays. Expect mandatory overtime."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"Everything that I do in my job is micromanaged. Verizon only cares about stats and numbers, and not the happiness of the employees or customers. The schedules we are offered are horrible, and we are also forced to work mandatory overtime quite often."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would have the contractors work the nights, weekends and holidays. I would hire more employees and not force mandatory overtime on the employees. I would also have a Monday through Friday work week for the actual Verizon employees."

"If you're going to be working in a call center, just remember they pay more than anyone else I have found for talking to customers."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"I can not complain about work freedom. I can take breaks and lunch when I want, and if I need a day off it's not a problem to get. Even changing hours is not an issue."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Take more interest in the employees, and show them that Verizon cares for there well-being. Management is pretty good to work in, but some of the craft jobs are to be desired."

What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"I'm able to work from home. My immediate management gives me the freedom to explore new projects, make observations, and suggest ideas."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Go somewhere else, unless you want to stay in that position for the rest of your life."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"Verizon is a bureaucratic monster. Promotions or even changing positions and moving to a different group within the company is almost unheard of. I work with people who have been in the same position for twenty years. Due to the compartmentalized structure there is little chance of bringing new ideas or new ways of doing things in."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Take a pay cut and keep more people employed in the states."

What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"We have actually been instructed how and what our feedback on items should be done, as opposed to accepting open feedback."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"With the new CEO, Verizon has a fetish for college degrees. A job that just two years ago you could get without a degree for entry level work requiring no education now requires a college degree, and for the same level of pay or less, depending on the role.I came in before this change and have been told I will have no upward or lateral mobility due to the lack of a degree."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"We do not have work freedom. We are micromanaged down to the point of having to state someone's name X number of times during a call."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I feel that the company has effectively 'fetishized' the wireless side of the company to the point of intentional neglecting of the wireline side. This is also evident with the poor treatment the union workers are getting in regards to benefits. Also, I have 12 bosses. Office space has nothing on my job."

What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"My only current enjoyments of my position are the pay and the benefits. However, those are fleeting."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would advise anyone looking to work for Verizon to take advantage of every opportunity you are provided with to move around the company and grow. Do not hesitate."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"The training provided to employees is horrendous, especially in a position where we must speak with and instruct customers on usage of our service. The constant reminders of how you are unsuccessful at meeting a standard or metric that is as dynamic as the winds don't help. Having to possibly select a new schedule every 30 days is about as morale-boosting as using a toothbrush to clean the Great Wall of China in a mudslide. The employees have had to devise their own committee to try and cheer each other up and have our own celebrations out of our own pockets."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"My first concerns would not be the suit-wearing people filling chairs at board meetings. Considering the company provides a service and it requires the reception and happiness of your customers to keep the company growing, I would spend far more time trying to make sure my employees were enjoying what they did and were well-trained for the job they are assigned."
