"I've been with the company for 17 years, and things have changed, but I cannot say for the better: - The focus is on "growth" through reduction. Every 2-4 months there is another layoff. These in fact have to be very creatively structured because the "bottom 10%" was gone a long time ago. You can be a top performer and become a victim the next day. - Years of work experience with the company are irrelevant. I know of contractors that were hired for 12 years that were dismissed because they lacked a college degree. - Your assigned work PC is an expensive paperweight, which demands a reboot--often taking an hour--as many as twice a day. I suppose I should say some good things, too: - They do have a good benefits package, but I would recommend taking a union job and stay out of Information Technology. - The buildings and workspaces are clean and maintained."

"I'd recommend coming in as a contractor to see if it's a position you wish to continue. If you like it, you can accept an offer to join as full-time with the company."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"I dislike the constant requirement to do more with less, loss of the telecommuting option, and very frequent changes from day to night shift with very long hours."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be open to employee needs, invest in the business, invite an honest opinion from subordinate managers, and base decisions on these recommendations."

What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"I enjoyed the interaction with my teammates and our clients, and working with people. I also enjoyed Sharepoint Admin activities. I quickly became the go-to guy for anything related to SharePoint or SQLServer for our team."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"There is a lingo associated with telephony which you should learn and use to establish credibility."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"They have a limit on how long you can contract, and my time was up. I would like to see that limitation removed. Also, I would like access to the on-site gym."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Encourage teams to explore newer technologies, and encourage innovation. Invest in your workforce with training."
