"The Home Depot is dynamic, challenging, and public-facing. It's never the same from day-to-day."

What do you like about working at Home Depot?

"I enjoyed the people I worked with. They were extremely positive and eager to help. I loved working with customers and helping to meet their needs. I'm an educator, and it was a constant chance to help people to learn."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be honest, and be yourself. When hired, you will be hired as a temp, part-time. Take it and make the most of it. Learn all you can, and be seen doing so. Pitch in in other departments, learn all the stations (key machine, pipe threader, chain cutter, millwork). After about 120 days, they make the move to either drop you or offer something permanent. If you've done what I said, there's a better than average chance of getting full-time. When I did the switch, I was given a 25% raise. Just sayin'."

What don't you like about working at Home Depot?

"I disliked the internal politics. I have a hard time reading what's going on below the surface, and that's ultimately why I left."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The management team is excellent. Their expectations are realistic, their work ethic is consistent, and their team support is wonderful. My only real suggestion might be to allow for more training time, when and as you can."

"There was no room for growth."

What do you like about working at Home Depot?

"My coworkers were usually friendly and helpful. It was nice working to help people."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I wouldn't bother. Go get a retail job working with less chauvinistic customers and management."

What don't you like about working at Home Depot?

"Cashiers were viewed throughout the company as the grunts - sales representatives to customers - there was never respect shown to us."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Realize that without cashiers and their customer service skills, the company wouldn't make nearly as much profit as it does. Show the cashiers that they are appreciated, especially by honoring them during Cashier Appreciation Week. Don't just ignore their hard work and punish them when they lose motivation."

What do you like about working at Home Depot?

"Fellow employees are great and fun to work with daily."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

What suggestions do you have for management?
