"I've worked at HP for a number of years now, as a contractor in this latest stint, but previously, as a full-time employee.The culture at HP has changed over time. I remember it as a friendly, congenial atmosphere, rather like one big, happy family.At present, the company is still interested in hiring the best and brightest recent graduates, which I admire. But the willingness to separate and compartmentalize important product development functions may hurt them in the end."

"Learn as much as you can about the culture before the interview. When filling a position they look as much for someone who matches the corporate culture mold as they do for the appropriate skill sets."

"HP as a company is very good, but the management is hopeless. I had quit the management, but I still love the company."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Live up to the rules defined by HP. When HP says it trusts employees, its practice should be out of those patriotic banners not just on the walls. Show employee that you care. Most importantly, hire matured managers especially the storage team where I was."

"First ensure your expectations and goals align with that of the company before committing to a job. Because only then can you increase your chances of working long term for and staying happy with the company."

"Well, your pay can be cut at anytime without any notice. You never have any input on anything, it's just a nightmare."

"Prepare for behavioral interview and for technical questions. Minorities and women are given preference in hiring. Interviewers are usually not trained, so be ready for anything."

"Future looks bleak. Layoffs are certain to be a regular part of life there for quite a while. HP will continue to go downhill for the foreseeable future."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop going to meetings all day and do some real management. You have a great work force that is mostly idle. Time to make some smart moves to try to save the company as the inkjet business declines. Stop kidding yourselves and get real."

"Clueless management, constantly shifting plans, lack of basic support to get the job done, no growth potential, constant reductions in pay and benefits, no job security, new dog eat dog, cover your back culture, etc. etc. etc."

"Try caring for your employees more than the bottom line. Stop outsourcing jobs to India, etc."

"If you are age 40+, HP will hire you if they are in dire need of your experience, but your years there are numbered. You will be the first to be laid off down the road because of your age."

"Racism, age discrimination, they do not appreciate good work. I personally think they use and dump people. They outsource jobs a lot outside the USA and leave you in limbo, which is rather unfair."
