"Smoke and mirrors. Compaq couldn't do anything in the consulting field... seems to have gotten worse under HP and now EDS acquisition is sure to make it even worse."
What don't you like about working at Hewlett-Packard?
"Totally chaotic and unorganized consulting practice. No logic to their madness at all (i.e. no formal indoctrination process, no useful training, no team building, no set methodologies, no useful archival of intellectual capital, etc.). The real problem was that the people they recruited in the consulting practice basically only had experience in consulting and no real world experience. It also appeared that the majority had a gift for BS."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Either invest in creating a true consulting practice from the ground up or get out of the business. The consulting business is the total opposite of the computer hardware side of the house and I don't think customers really understand that until it is too late.Concentrate on building team work instead of unorganized competition to see who rises to the top. Never had really any respect for any of the managers since they all pretty much came from the marketing side of the business. Totally wrong way to do a systems integration organization that is supposed to have reputation of HP brand."
