Field Technician

"Prepare for misery if you're a field tech."

What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"There were some good people that I worked with that meant well."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you want to work at Verizon, go to a department that deals with development or the business side. Stay away from Franklin positions."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"First, I hate being in attics. I was in an attic almost every day. If you live in Texas, you know what kind of misery that is in the summer when it's 102 degrees outside. You're constantly in the elements as a field tech. It doesn't matter what kind of weather, as the only thing the managers care about are numbers. You were expected to meet a certain quota each month. And, you were expected to sell more products and services while you were in the customer's house. I'm not a salesperson - I was a tech. And lastly, we had no support. If you needed tools, drill bits, or the simplest of items, you couldn't get them. They were always on order. I was there for almost five years and hated almost five years of it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop using your front-line people like pack mules. They are the ones keeping you employed. They deserve better. I know that this review will never reach anyone of any sort of importance at Verizon, and that's too bad. Verizon could be a great place to work. Unfortunately I was in a bad department with no way to move up or advance."

Service Technician

"Verizon was once a great employer when it comes to the treatment of its customers and employees, but since it has become Verizon from Bell Atlantic, it, as a company, has drifted away from being the employee and customer-based company it once was."

What do you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"I liked the pay, the benefits, the contact with the customers, and the contact with co-workers and colleagues."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Communications?

"I don't like the direction the company has taken, from once seeming to care about the customers' and employees' needs and wants to now solely caring about ways to make more and save money."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Try listening to the concerns of your employees, and make them feel as though their voices are being heard and not just going into deaf ears."
