"Its not a bad place to work, unless you are used to making your own decisions."

What don't you like about working at L-3?

"extremely controlling senior management requires approval for the types of decisions that are made a lower levels at other companies. Communication at Sr. levels seems to be limited which results in 3-4 approaches being taken by people on the same program as they support their functional boss over the program boss."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Embrace Cross Functional IPTs where personnel report to Program Managers for direction on business approach. You need to manage the expectations and goals of the Program Managers, and let them manage the people."

"Follow the normal guidelines you would fo anywhere else. Be professional."

"Some of the facilities on our site are remote which requires a lot of travel during the day."

"IPTs should be co-located by their facility. Spreading the teams out geographically is challenging."

"More training and better communication as it relates to process changes"

"If interviewing for an overseas assignment, make sure you get all the facts on housing and cost of living allowances as well as relocation/repatriation entitlements."

"Generally work at customer location, rather than corporate; so company culture/comraderie is limited."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Improve employee mobility within the company. It's tough to move up or laterally, so many of my coworkers have gone elsewhere."

"There were many knowledgeable people to work with, who were helpful. The products manufactured there are advanced and were high reliability."

"Prepare to be respectful, prepare to answer some technical questions and be able to cope with stress and abundance of work."

"There was a lot of stress going around and at times, people would lose patience with regard to solving issues. Also in investigations, resources and tools were frequently delayed or were limited, so some investigations would take time. Carpenters' Labor union would frequently file frivolous grievances that drained finances from the company and limited the company's ability to obtain more resources."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Obtain more resources and tools for conducting effective investigations into manufacturing issues. Also to hire more knowledgeable non-union staff. And if possible, get rid of the labor union."

"I liked the quality of work and working with my co-workers."

"The work is good and the co-works are great but do not expect management support."

"Management philosophy and how they reacted to customers and employees."

"I would suggest management training and personal skill training also."

"upper management was corrupt and they ending up bankrupting the entire company"

"Prison would have been appropriate but that did not happen in this case."

"this company does not retain the best employees in its workforce; they hire and layoff often."

"bosses are arbritrary in their approach to task assignments and people assignments."

"replace all of them with ones that don't lie or cheat."

"The people that I worked with directly were great, and I loved the office where I was at. they encouraged learning."

"If you are looking to build your resume or start a career in government contracting, this is a good start."

"It was a fairly restrictive environment as a whole. It is a military defense contractor, so there is none of the traditional perks of working for a tech company."

"Lighten up the environment a little. Allow the developers to wear everyday clothes. IT is a little ridiculous to make devs sit around in a suit and tie."

"It's in a good niche within the defense industry, i.e. communications for ISR."

"It strictly depends upon the position, the programs, and the leaders involved."

"So many people touch the processes and components (internally & externally) that it's difficult to control cost, schedule, and quality."

"More sub-components should be brought back in-house and teams should be more focused."

"They were a small company and were not quite as aware of how their growth was taking them without infrastructure - i.e they grew too fast and crashed and burned."
