"I worked with Office Depot for 4 months as a job during high school, I got the job to start building my job experience and make some money on the side. I also did it because other than school I had a lot of time on my hands. It was a decent job that paid pretty well for retail, everything was pretty nice about it but unfortunately I got laid off due to budget cuts. However if I were to recommend a retail job for a person just starting it would be Office Depot."

Sales Associate

"Consult more with the people doing the work!!!!!!!"

What do you like about working at Office Depot?

"Co-workers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Retail hours suck!!!"

What don't you like about working at Office Depot?

"Hours - too many nights and weekends, understaffed, lack of training (need to do a lot more cross training), underpaid, computers are way too slow to be efficient. Need to be trained on software (publisher, adobe photo-shop, and all the other software used in the copy center. Xerox certified is a joke!!! Better drivers for the Docucolor 252. Schedule does not come out early enough (less than a week is not enough), and hours should not be cut after the schedule has been issued. I would like to see the schedule come out a month in advance!!!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"A lot less micromanaging. Set broad direction and let each manager manage accordingly. Forget about Black Friday since we lose money with all the sales. Since we are not a one stop holiday shopping location, there is no need to open early. Stick to the basics and forget all the designer crap!!! Most huddles are worthless. Stop worrying about the numbers and work more on the process. Most associates do not care. We spend too much time tracking when we have other things to do. Dropping all endcaps and EBWs at the same time makes it hard to nearly impossible to get them and freight done in a timely manner."

What don't you like about working at Office Depot?

"The CEO has changed the company for the worst. The programs that he implemented messed his employees over which affected the customers. Even I could have done better. Pushing customers to buy things that they didn't want, and if we did sell it to them we could get fired. We were told if they didn't buy certain things with their item tell the customer we didn't have it. Just terrible."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get rid of the CEO and go back to the way it was. Ya, the stock might have fluctuated between $14 and $22, but the CEO said he will get it to $42, and what is it now. There were happy customers and employees, now you have nothing."
