Working at United States Navy in Virginia Beach, VA: 35 Employee Reviews

United States Navy Employee

"Enlisting in the U.S. Navy will change your life. No other occupation can offer the thrills you will experience. Make no mistake, however, you will also work harder than you ever have as a civilian. Long hours, long stretches away from home, and less money than you would make in the civilian sector. Knowing what you are doing is part of the greater good, though, is priceless."

Assistant Operations Officer

"I've been an Officer in the United States Navy for the past seven years. There have been plenty of up's and down's with many challenges along the way. I am transitioning out of the military not because of lack of respect for the job but I have reached the point in my career that I know it is time to move on. I would have to stay in for a minimum of five more years and all of those are out at sea and deployable, which is not what I want. I am looking to start a family and being away from my fiancee for a long period of time is something I am not looking for at this point."

"Very high paced industry with quick thinking and teamwork being focal points in order to complete the mission. Long hours, but rewarding when understanding what it is you're doing it for. Can grow at your own pace depending on what you do to set yourself apart from the rest while still helping others excel."

"If you need a stable income with benefits, the military takes care of its own. It's hard work but you can make it up the ranks if you show up to work on time, in the right uniform and keep the right attitude. I definitely saw some wonders of the world in just the four years that I spent in the Navy. I also got 50k for college which I used to become a software engineer and make lots of money now. It was a great way to grow up before I decided what I really wanted to be when I grew up!"
