"The United States Navy is generally a good environment. The pay is equal to the work that is accomplished. Considering that the military gives you a home, medical, dental, extra pay, and vacation time, the military is an easy life. The downside is favoritism, unrealistic advancement requirements, and misuse of funds."

What do you like about working at United States Navy?

"Leadership opportunities, exciting missions, teamwork, a sense of purpose, being valued for my skills, adventure."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Talk to actual sailors and actual officers in depth to understanding what culture, work environment, and workload are really like. There is a lot of excitement and benefits to be had, but you absolutely need to know what you're getting into. Commercials are inaccurate."

What don't you like about working at United States Navy?

"Really crappy command climate when it came to looking out for your people or being inclusive as a team. if the boss didn't like you, you were definitely an outsider. If you spoke up about unethical issues you were ignored or dismissed. You would be piled with work, then the boss would leave early, little leadership by example. Nonsensical processes were used, like working 14 hour days when it wasn't necessary. Sexual discrimination. lack of a culture of teamwork. Lack of holding people accountable for discipline issues."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Advocate for my people, create a command climate of equal opportunity, hold everyone to the same standard, promote teamwork, enforce discipline, listen to people's feelings, be respectful, be professional."
