"Management has been there forever. They show favoritism, have extremely rigid rules, and treat you like you are in high school."

"Smith Barney Citigroup no longer exists, due to Citigroup sold it to Morgan Stanley."

"It is very difficult to transition to a different role. Capital Markets firm usually prefers to hire someone from outside rather than promote internal talent, and I am a high believer in loyalties."

"Sometimes you need to look for internal talent, especially if they are loyal, qualified, and committed to succeed."

"Increase customers volume by providing them some enhanced tools which internally help growth of the company."

"Because of the way the market is going, there is too much uncertainty about your job."

"The pace can be crazy, and the lulls are both predictable and perfectly timed to alleviate work tension. Also, I love developing relationships with people all over the world. It was also great to feel part of something that was constantly relevant to current world events."

"Be confident with all of your answers, be direct, and demonstrate that you are listening."

What don't you like about working at Morgan Stanley?

"When I first started, it was hard to get used to what I call bankerese, which is a habit of using as few words as possible to communicate. While I don't expect a short novel, I do appreciate having the basics expressed (e.g., general time of day that travel is preferred, who the desired participants are for a conference call, and specifying whether a meeting I am organizing is part of a roadshow, or an ad-hoc call). I found, though, that I got used to the language habits, and adapted fine."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would recommend regular top-up training for all managers with direct reports. I mean, they should have mandatory annual courses on the human side of managing people. There are bi-annual courses for many regulatory issues, as there should be, but there is no focus whatsoever on human resources."

"The people whom I worked with where very nice, and it was a nice place to work."

"It was a very specified job, and there was not much room to grow."

"It's a very nice place to work. You really have to look hard to find things to complain about."

"People interviewing at E*TRADE can expect lower base salaries than they may see other places however E*TRADE does pay bonuses every year."

"There are limited career opportunities due to industry headwinds, not really due to the company itself."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The management needs to be less conservative. Deliberate decision making is fine in some environments but at its core, E*TRADE is a technology company with a significant web property more than it is a brokerage firm."

"It's a good company, with good working knowledge and new skills to learn."

"Prepare well ahead for the interview and have good financial knowledge."

"I dislike the commute to New York City and strenuous walks to the location."

"Morgan Stanley has a great reputation, and I was able to work for an outstanding team of advisors."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure you are comfortable making 300 to 400 cold calls per day for the first two years as a financial advisor. This is purely a zero excuse work place if you are not successful at teaching yourself the business. You are 100% responsible for your own destiny."

What don't you like about working at Morgan Stanley?

"I disliked being required to cold call potential clients with zero training on cold calling techniques. Management required results that seemed unbearable to obtain."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Focus on employee training. Having a trackable and verifiable training program would produce better financial advisors."

"I have a job in this economy and I am grateful."

"I have no potential and my position is constantly changing - but those changes are lateral changes."

"Management should hire strong temporary employees on a full time basis and not lose them to other companies."
