"I have worked at Lowe's in Fort Wayne on Illinois Road for 5 years. This is a top notch company that cares for the employee. Encourages advancement and has a great leadership team. The store manager is a great guy as well."

"At Lowe's there is a poor peer work ethic and little support to help upward growth."

What do you like about working at Lowe's?

"I liked the fact that I was not stuck in a cubicle every day."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"When you interview for a job at Lowe's, the biggest thing you should remember is the regurgitation of simple mnemonic devices that they have on the walls in the employee areas. For example: IMPACT (I= initiate contact, M= make assessment, P= provide assistance, A= add on sales, C= close the sale, T= thank the customer). Simple things like that are your key to getting a job."

What don't you like about working at Lowe's?

"I did not like the fact that Lowe's management was more worried about cutting hours than keeping the employee workforce happy and content. The manager and regional manager are so focused on nickel and diming the employee's hours that they force each employee to be worked too hard. The short-term gain from cutting hours is nothing in comparison to the long-term benefit of having consistent and happy coverage from employees who are not overworked."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The job of management is to help implement processes that would make the workplace run and produce better. However, implementing ideas from the top down ruins this process. An idea from the top does not take into account how it affects the lower employees. The managers would do well to ask the employees how to improve on a situation and then implement the ideas. All-in-all, management needs to spend more time listening to people below them. Otherwise they are going to lose key workers, due to overworking and lack of attention to needs."

"I have worked in the manufacturing environment for over 20 years and apply my skills daily working at Lowe's."

What do you like about working at Lowe's?

"Lowe's is an outstanding company to work for. With the exception of a retail work schedule, I would say it is one of the most stable companies I have worked at. I like the benefits, 401K and what the company matches. Lowe's stock is outstanding. The company assists its employees in the case of natural disasters."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Dress for success. Know the company and the job to be performed."

What don't you like about working at Lowe's?

"The main thing I dislike working at Lowe's is working a retail work schedule."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The only thing I would suggest to senior management is to get out of the office and spend 1 month a year in a store."

What do you like about working at Lowe's?

"Lowe's pays more than other retail jobs, and it's easier to get a full-time position."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"It's a job. If you're a dude, you're set, and unless you are completely lazy, you'll be promoted eventually. If you're a woman, unless you've been in a skilled vocation or are really lucky, you will be a cashier and that is all you will be. They might add a head in front of that title, but you will be stuck on the front end unless they are really desperate for someone on the sales floor or in the back. They will claim you are the most important employees but they will treat you like crap."

What don't you like about working at Lowe's?

"It's the people. Customers can be good or bad; it comes with the territory. Some co-workers I could do without - the ones who don't say a thing to you until they need or want something, the ones who don't do anything but still manage to keep their job, and the ones who think they're better than you and talk down to you. I don't like the managers who will not back policy because they believe it's good customer service or are too lazy to deal with a problem, and the ones who don't do anything."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would follow the rules set out for all employees instead of thinking they are for everyone else, and I wouldn't be so capricious about what my employees' tasks are. I wouldn't micromanage just because I'm bored and can't sneak off to the back to talk with my friends."

What do you like about working at Lowe's?

"I like the consultative selling, the low key atmosphere, and the freedom to solve problems at Lowe's."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would emphasize a love of taking care of customers and a willingness to cram extra stuff down their throats."

What don't you like about working at Lowe's?

"Management is very inconsistent about following policy. There seems to be a fear of enforcement when minorities are involved. Individuals are not rewarded for superior performance. The company can't decide what it is."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would focus the business on customer service and adequate staffing. I would also let my program run long enough to allow it to work."

What don't you like about working at Lowe's?
