"Supporting the technology for the teachers and students is something that I have enjoyed since my first day. There are teachers that are constantly finding new ways to implement new technology and keep the interest of the students during instructional time. It is definitely one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done."

What don't you like about working at First American Title?

"I will not mention names, was written up for a miscommunication between personnel at Wells Fargo who was talking to me, and my lead passed on what I had said to my Manager. The person at Wells Fargo called me back and I explained that I will be written up over how I handled business with you. She was not happy to hear this and demanded to speak with my Manager, but he refused to take the call and speak with her; so my manager and I went into a conference room and he wrote me up without giving me the chance to defend myself by allowing him to call Wells Fargo to get the correct event on what really happened. I am the only black person who works in the department and when Martin Luther King day came my manager let all of his employees leave work early except for me. A co-worker spoke up and said to my manager Don't you think it is unfair to make HenrI stay until close, while everyone else gets to go home early. He did not respond to the question, but instead he shook hands with some people grabbed his coat and left the building. At lease every other day someone in our department will get angry at a customer that they were speaking with. Once they are done with the call the person will stand up and start using profanity loud enough that the customer that I am speaking with can hear every word that is being said. It's embarrassing to me and I have to apologize to the customer for my co-workers unprofessional behavior. All the while this is happening the manager is sitting 4 cubicles' behind the person who is cursing and he has yet to do something about it. One afternoon I was working with a customer on the phone, and I was searching through the knowledge base to come up with a solution to fix the problem a broker was having in pulling a credit report. After exhausting all of my resources I leaned over to ask my second level a question about the problem. The second level tech got loud with me and said that I should know the answer from an email that was sent out a few weeks prior. In a matter of 3 minutes I got an email from my manager stating that he was going to write me up for asking a question that was related to an email. Two days later the person sitting in from of me asked the same question to the same second level technician, and the second level technician spoke to him nicely and there was no threat of being written up for asking the question. There are many other incidents that have occurred as well; however I do have a question to ask you. What do you think is going on here Is it something that I am doing wrong or not expressing correctly I don't know, but all I can say is that I have acquired bumps that are forming all over the palms of my hands from the stress that this is causing me. A few weeks ago a ran into a co-worker in from of CVS pharmacy and he told me that our manager has told everyone on the department that I am seeing a Psychiatrist for mental problems. First of all if it were true I would like for this to be kept confidential, second it's not true so why would he want to say this about me."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be kind and courteous to all employees, and to not allow ones personal opinions affect relations between people no matter their color, nationality, or religion."

Technical Support Analyst at Pearson
in Indianapolis, IN

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Management (and other staff) claim to be open minded, until you disagree..."

What do you like about working at Pearson?

"The benefits were excellent and basically when work was done, you were done. So your evenings, weekends, and holidays were your own. That did rock."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Either agree with everything they say, or stay silent about your beliefs. Of course if you are a far far far left believer/enviro-terrorist/anti-corporation type, you will fit right in. (Which is kind of funny when you think about them being part of a global organization that prints books...)."

What don't you like about working at Pearson?

"The Berekely office was just way too hippy. Group hugs and feeling discussions over yogurt type stuff. As feeling oriented and in touch as they were, they were incredibly mean spirited. If you don't share their feelings (especially politically), you are ostracised. Don't get me wrong, I love the hippy attitude, but politics and religion are the two things that you shouldn't make part of your work environment.Secondly, there was no where to go. You wouldn't even be notified that there was a position, just suddenly someone new was there. No one internal was considered for management/executive positions, they always looked outside.I was there for years and never saw it happen. Also the stability of the publishing business has been up and down over the last decade, so job security is a big question mark."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"That particular office, is probably hopeless, but lighten up on the political stuff and look internally. There are (or were when I was there) a lot of talented people...make use of them."
