Store Manager at Anne Fontaine
in King of Prussia, PA

What do you like about working at Anne Fontaine?

"I love styling my clients, working with visual presentation and merchandising, as well as training my team"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure you do a lot of research on the company before-hand. Have a passion for the designer and if you know French, all the better (make sure you tell them that, you will get paid more). Make sure you like a slower paced environment and enjoy working by yourself."

What don't you like about working at Anne Fontaine?

"Within 3 weeks of being hired, my immediate boss left the company. A few days later, my Regional was fired. Lots of change happening in a short period of time. Not as stable of a company as I was told. Very slow days.. when I don't have anything operational to do and clients aren't walking in or making appointments, it definitely drags. I feel like my ability to run a store is halted here."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would get to know my employees, it's a smaller company compared to other retailers so it wouldn't be hard to do. Hire a consultant to come on and help the business.. something needs to change with the way business is trending. Hire someone to help with real estate; close stores that haven't been performing and relocate. Have a proper training program for all employees at store level. Hire a Human Resource team.. there currently is no HR."

Store Manager at Big Lots
in Bradenton, FL

What do you like about working at Big Lots?

"There was nothing enjoyable about the job. It was high stress and they did not give you enough payroll hours for what they wanted done."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Ask about the amount of payroll given. Ask how long it takes to unload and put out a truck. They will tell you two days but most stores work on it all week. Ask about task Manager and how many projects corp. office puts on per week. On top of running the store I was getting 100 extra tasks that had dead line dates. I didn't have the payroll to get them done. Noone did. People ended up signing off on tasks they didn't do to stay out of trouble. Every store manager has all these problems. If you suck op to your Dist. Manager they will give you extra hours. Some store managers who lived near the Dist manager and saw her all the time, would get 150+ extra hours a week. Hours that should have been shared with all the stores."

What don't you like about working at Big Lots?

"Everything. They don't care about the employee's or the tools you need to get the job done. Most of the Dist. Managers on up have never worked in a Big Lots Store. They have no idea. My first year my Dist. Manager spent 4 1/2 hours total in my store. Only saw her when she thought her boss was going to visit."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Make sure the stores had the hours they needed to get the job done. Make sure people were trained. Bring in Dist. Managers and LP managers that know what there doing."
