"It gave you the freedom to establish your clientele and business. Your success was based on referrals and word of mouth, which can be beneficial and detrimental to your career."

"Build your customer basis and a type 'A' personality is a must. You have to go out and drum up your business until you start developing a customer base and repeat clients."
What don't you like about working at Primerica?
"It was solely commission based and no benefits."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Enforce a salary package while new associates are getting their feet wet with the business. Going from a steady salary to commission only is tough enough as it is."

"At times I feel that there was a lot of unethical sales approaches they encouraged us to use."

"Make sure the best interests of the client or customer comes first. You want them to refer people to you don't you. Building a database for business is the best way for success."

"The system was set up so that 90% or more of the new FAs would fail and their business would then be divided up among the mostly lesser educated brokers who couldn't make it anywhere else."

"The broker platform is pretty good, and I couldn't complain about my coworkers in the branch."

"Know what you're getting into, especially with foreign-based firms."
What don't you like about working at UBS?
"Dealing with Weehawken was a complete nightmare. What was even worse was that since my branch was small in terms of personnel and revenue, we were never attended to by upper levels of sales management. I recently received word that my former branch is now going to be a branch of Stifel Nicolaus, so I guess that shows what the HQ thought of us."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I really wouldn't know where to start. I feel that the brokers are left to their own devices to get their job done with very little management support. I was fed up after 5 years, and left to pursue my MBA."

"It is one of the biggest, respected firms on Wall St. If you put in the hard work, there is unlimited growth potential."

"Carefully read up on all numbers related to current ML, rival firm & general market statistics."
What don't you like about working at Merrill Lynch?
"At the 5th Avenue office, there was NO support among any management team member. You were simply handed series 7/66 books & told to pass both tests. Too many daily, distracting meetings that were useless to a new FA, when studying was the main objective."

"Fire everyone in management. Word on the street, that's already been done!"

"I liked being able to work with business owners and having sale goals."

"They did not provide offices."
