What do you like about working at Dell?
"The first two years at Dell, 1995-1997 was the best work experience of my life. The following three, particularly when the layoffs began, were the worst in my life. I made the decision to leave the company 1 month after the 3rd round of layoffs in 2000 to work full time as a vendor to Dell and other companies."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"With Dell Be honest with yourself about whether or not you fit into their culture, if so, enjoy the ride. If not, run, don't walk."
What don't you like about working at Dell?
"The culture has devolved to one of selfishness, fear and paranoia. People no longer care about quality, much less building things that will be easy to update in the future; it could be extremely frustrating."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Make yourself indispensable."

"Friends."

"Good luck and wait for the burnout to kick in..."

"Management."

"None, because no one listens."

"Dell burns up their employees and then tosses them aside after off-shoring their jobs to India."

"Dell's management needs to acquire some management skills. Dell has a lot of 1st-time managers who have no skills in good leadership."

"I made lifelong friends there, and had quite a bit of success as a corporate sales representatve."
What don't you like about working at Dell?
"The enormity of the company sometimes made one feel like a number, promotions seemed to be based more on politics and/or nepotism than on performance, and, during my tenure, I witnessed first-hand some pretty unfair treatment of some of my colleagues."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Do not allow promotions to be given by upper management to their in-laws, or other family members. Employ a truly scientific, or mathematical, unbiased method of quota distribution rather than quotas based upon how the relationship between the manager and sales representative happens to be."

"I worked as a contractor 3 years - it was impossible to get a permanent position."

"Simplify the process of moving from contractor to permanent."

"I can't really think of anything, there are little hicupps here and there as with any other company but in general there is not a single thing that I can say I realy truly dislike."
