What don't you like about working at DaVita?

"The company no longer cares about its teammates. The bottom line became more important, and it is all a numbers game. People services makes very bad judgement calls. People who should have been terminated were allowed to keep their jobs, and others were fired who should have been able to stay."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Remember that without the teammates, the company would not be what it is today. Give credit where it is due. Fix people services, especially in team renaissance."

"It is an excellent company with great benefits."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"This company does all thorough background checks and will call all former employees. It's a Fortune 500 company, and it is a business-casual company; hence, no suits and no ties. Khakis and polo T shirts are the dress code."

What don't you like about working at DaVita?

"There are too many formalities and too many systems to be worked on; hence, it keeps you busy just getting on one system to another."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Keep us away from too many conference calls and meetings; hence, we can spend more quality time with patients."

"I liked the teammates."

"I liked the stability of a Fortune 500 company. I loved this company back when it was smaller and the mission and values were more than just words."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't fall for the mission and values speech. The sales pitch is great... and it used to ring true. But in many parts of the country this is no longer the reality. Be sure to be prepared to answer behavioral interview questions."

What don't you like about working at DaVita?

"It has changed. The company has gotten too big. The mission and values are just words. Politics and stepping on others to get to the top have gotten out of hand. Management by fear has crept in. It's just another big company now. You can't leave there without being black-balled, no matter how valuable you were as a teammate when you were there. If you leave and go to the competition, they will trash you."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Go back to the old days when you actually cared about the patients! There is too much focus on the bottom line. Even the local and regional managers can't do a good job because they have too much on their plates and are expected to work 24/7."

"The first two years before the purchase of Gambro, all ethics and care of staff were lost at that point! The COE was out to screw people daily. The company lost all ethics or close to it."

"Don't, unless you have no other choices."

What don't you like about working at DaVita?

"I dislike the DaVita of today. There was a time it was a company that cared about its people; now it is only the bottom line. Upper management steps over each other to look good to the COE, even if it means axing several good people."

"Get rid of the COE."

"Think about the learning curve and what the expectations are. Give yourself a chance to learn, and go with your gut feelings."

"I dislike the management BS, and there is too much favoritism."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be fair to everyone, not just your favorites. You can get a lot more done by positive rewards. There are no rewards for those who are consistently on time or go above for others, but there are big punishments."

"I liked the autonomy, and I had an opportunity to teach my patients about treatments and medications."

"Be upfront with everything, including salaries, benefits and schedules."

"It was too early in the morning - need to arrive at the job by 5 a.m."

"I especially liked working with the team. They are so supportive, like a family. Work is so challenging and utilized all my skills to work as a report developer."

"I disliked going every week up and down to LA, and of course weather conditions in Tacoma."

"Management needs to improve the team plan, information sharing, and its implementation to meet the deadline."

"I did like working with the staff at the different facilities, and I really do miss the friends I had, patients and staff alike."

"Be truthful and direct; they don't like to be misled before the answer."

What don't you like about working at DaVita?

"This area is rural, and I had several facilities to cover. The supervisors in other states couldn't figure why it took so long to travel from one facility to another, so I would say the extreme down time in traveling, and waiting on parts that we could no longer inventory."

"Know your employees' area before you criticize in a negative way."

"The company was going through major changes from Gambro Health Care, which I loved working for, to DaVita, which made some major changes, and a lot of the changes I couldn't live with."
