"Make sure you are comfortable with the possibility of never working outside of government markets. Also, don't get blinded by the consulting tag the company gets, all we are is a glorified temp agency."

"They dont tell you about what tasking you will be working on; management in my area is clueless, slow, & not savvy; they place more of an emphasis on being in the military, rather than business practices; my project has been on problem after another; and a genuine lack of true business skills. Just because the client is the government, most of the projects are not interesting.MOST OF ALL skills learned by working with the government do not provide employees with skills needed outside of the beltway Honestly, who cares with you worked with a bunch of GS-15s on projects are not valued by real consulting firms ie) Bain, BCG, ect.."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Do you ever wonder why Booz and Co split off ? You need to drop the government and work harder on the new, but never recognized commercial side. Lets face it, the government isn't a blank check anymore."

"For O&M staff (break/fix, engineering, architecture) the promotion path is not in line with what engineers and technicians do on a daily basis."

"If Booz Allen continues to operate in the government operations and maintenance arena, it would be beneficial for them to look at their corporate structure."

"When interviewed just be confident in your skill sets. You should have no problem working in this environment if you are good at your job."

"Management was really good. I suggest that they continue onward doing what they are doing."

"The compensation packages are higher than most other government contractors, and it's well-deserved! I worked with experienced, amazingly brilliant, innovative people, unlike the barely-graduated, Freddy-fly-by-nights typical of companies like SAIC. When I worked for BAH, the focus was on hiring an employee to be developed, not just used for one contract gig and tossed aside. Lots of opportunities for professional development, and the employee review system is fair."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be aware that you're getting into a company that, while handsome in its compensation package, will demand a LOT of you outside of your billable hours. They really do expect you to socialize, go for drinks, golf, participate in community events and those mandatory fun picnics. You're also expected to participate in employee organizations, do more education and continued training, whether you need it or have time or not. For all BAH touts its work-life balance, there isn't much room for the life part."

What don't you like about working at Booz Allen Hamilton?

"The culture at regional offices, particularly those in the public sector division, is not healthy. A plethora of retired military good ol' boys makes the work environment downright hostile to women, LGBT people, and anyone not an arch-conservative. If you work here and you're not a straight, white, nominally Christian male with a Republican voter registration, be prepared to shut up, nod, and kiss a lot of ass, particularly if you're client-site based rather than at the home office."

"Stop worrying so much about appearances and focus on substance."

"The people I work with are exceptional and very easy to work with in a team."

"Great company to work for if you have a solid contract, but can be very shaky if you contracts are not managed well and you have to move around frequently."

"Contracts seem hard to find as the government has started to reign in their budget. So this means I now have to commute longer trips."

"Just be open when things look bad; it just makes it worse when you are the last to know."

"Integrity issues-- advertising work style one way, expecting something else. Have friends who work there who have had management be dishonest. Going public has had an impact on the company."

"Respect your employees and have integrity-- they are smart people, they'll know they aren't being given the full story or even the correct one."

"I like the salary and working with capable, intelligent people at Booz Allen."

"They have made it harder and harder to move up the ranks, so argue and negotiate your way to the highest level you can when offered a job at the firm."

"The work-life balance they talk about is a reality, as long as you are with the right project manager. Unfortunately, it is highly dependent on the project manager in how you experience Booz Allen. If you get a great one then your experience is positive, but if you get one with many faults then their issues trickle down to you - and you're the lower end of the totem pole so where does that leave you I was very excited about joining the firm, but after treatment from the PM I now only see it as a paycheck and a stepping stone to something better."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would take more time to develop subordinate employees. We are all busy, but taking the time out to make sure entry into the firm, and particularly the project, is smooth is very important."

"Don't bother unless you have a secret clearance or above."

"99.9 percent of openings require a high security clearance and if you cannot find billable work after a rather short period you are asked to leave."

"Do not hire people to the bench. It is a waste of everybody's time and there are too many layers of management."

"I don't know that they have a software division anymore. They are a government consulting company and were trying to break into the software consulting side of things because the large amounts of money those projects get from the DOD."

"The person in charge of our software division was military and changed every 3 months. With that, the requirements changed every 3 months."

"Get a software engineer to manage a software engineering project."
