"They need an investment group to sell Avaya. There's no interest in people, and leadership should step down due to lack of confidence."

"I dislike the poor finances and mandatory furloughs (one day a week last two months). Management was not the swiftest."

"They need to develop a long-range strategic plan. Each new addition to the team should be evaluated by the entire team. This keeps group cohesion."

"Avaya has a diverse set of products that can keep you challenged and busy, staying on top of the learning curve."

"Avaya is a very good company. It has great people and only average processes. Getting things done right for the customer and the company takes patience."

"We have a coin-operated R&D group with very little flexibility. As a result, changes rarely get made without an escalation through management."

"Expand the work force to capture new markets, in order to expand revenue and gain profitability."

"My team members are great to work with. They know their stuff, are highly competent, and I know from working with them that my own competencies have skyrocketed."

"Look elsewhere."

"The upper management is too set in its ways. Even when there is a demonstrably better way of doing things, you are shot down immediately. Higher-ups have said that software development hasn't changed in 30 years. It's driving down quality and preventing this company from being all it can be."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I suggest less focus on turf wars, and more focus on the war to win customers. Axing money makers to preserve failures is not a long winning plan."

"The managers and people are great! It's fun working with my co-workers. It's the government culture that creates the headaches."

"Know what you want. If you don't, it will feel like a dead end. Yet, the people are great fun to work with."

"The project leaders may not always know what they need. They have a difficult time communicating what they desire and in what amount time they have to get it done."

"I would get out of the way of the people. Managers need to guide, not direct."

What don't you like about working at Avaya?

"Avaya had finally gotten away from the good old boys club and Bell system attitudes, and turned into an agile business poised to succeed. Now Nortel and its culture is taking over and moving us backwards in some ways."

"Take away road blocks for your team, and allow them to do their jobs. Micromanagement is the wrong way to do business."
