"I've worked for Agilent since 2005 and seen a lot of changes as the organization has adjusted its market focus from life science research to pre-clinical and clinical marketplaces. Overall it's a good company to work for. At times it can honestly be frustrating in dealing with the entropy that needs to be overcome to do anything innovative. Be ready for a challenge if you're looking to be a change agent. Migration of R&D/Engineering/Mfg jobs off shore is a concern to be aware of."

What do you like about working at Agilent Technologies?

"HP is an ideal career placement for anyone. Their facilities are outstanding and they are good to their employees. As a contractor, I felt I was treated good. "HP is a well maintained company. Their products speak for themselves. Knowing about what they do and how they can apply their skills, knowledge and experience to a position at HP, would benefit both involved."

What don't you like about working at Agilent Technologies?

"As a contractor for five years, I gained valuable experience at HP and wanted to work as a regular employee. I did find out that HP does not hire contractors when a position comes up. They do hire within the company first, rather than look outside. Being a contractor, I would have to wait up to a year between positions to apply within or for a direct hire or another contract position."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Hire the people that do best for them and not to always be politically correct when it comes to their strict policies. It's really up to the CEO to make these type of changes. Both Carly Fiorina and Mark Hurd are good CEO's. Their hiring techniques are opposite of each other. Carly liked to hire anyone and in large numbers, however, Mark hired HP employees first to do the job, without excessive budget markups, consultants and contractors, thus saving HP millions of dollars his first year."

"Being yourself is the greatest asset for applying/interviewing here. There are real people with families and lives interviewing you, so keep in mind these people need to know you on a personal level, not just a professional basis."

What don't you like about working at Agilent Technologies?

"The personal advancement was quite slow and the company is very large, making transitions in acquisitions and mergers usually overtook the overall employee morale focus."
