"As a Program Manager (PgM) you're always learning. No two programs are the same because technology is constantly changing. Therefore, you are constantly in a learning mode. As the PgM, you have to learn new structure and processes. Thus, a Program Manager’s world is ever changing, growing and evolving – it’s a great ride! One more thing that I love about being a Program Manager is that you work with all sorts of interesting people. Program Management is a great training ground for future CEOs. Ability to manage things, risks, tasks, processes and at the same time lead people is for the few, the proud and the good PgMs. What do I hate about being a Program Manager, your success depends on the success of the team. You're now the head coach of Washington Redskins. If the team wins you take the glory, if the team does not win, you're toasted regardless of your previous accolades as a championship winning coach. Analogously, as a Program Manager you must rise above details mentality and become more of delegator and coordinator. Else I forget, to succeed as a PgM, you must maintain an open communication channel 24x7 and you must be a good and effective communicator; otherwise, don’t go down this path."

Program Manager at eBay
in Draper, UT

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Constantly evolving and changing."

What do you like about working at eBay?

"The people! The people that I worked with side-by-side, day-in day-out were absolutely the best part about working for eBay. I really liked the pace that the company moved at. There are always new initiatives and projects to contribute to. As a very technical oriented individual, I was constantly learning and exploring tools, development and vast amounts of data."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"eBay is a wonderful company to work for. The opportunities to move and explore working in other departments become available quickly if you are passionate about your job and you show interest and curiosity."

What don't you like about working at eBay?

"I struggled with the often disconnect between the Business Unit and Operations of the company. There was often a frustration among those who were on the front-lines of the day to day operations being instructed to modify their job function which felt contradictory to the best result for the customer and the company."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I believe strongly in open and honest communication between manager and employee. I believe that it's important for both parties to be receptive and forthright with expectations. It's difficult for Managers to listen to everyone and execute quickly, but equally its critical for Managers to refrain from dismissive comments and suggestions. Employees often won't speak up with such comments or suggestions unless they love their job and are passionate about the company they work for. Turning a deaf ear to feedback only creates a divide and breaks down the trust of a team."

Program Manager at CSG International

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Under resourced.Underpaid.Overworked. Old vision at the top."

What do you like about working at CSG International?

"Great people that are talented and motivated to do the best under overly-demanding circumstances that are inherently set up to fail (and they can't see it.)"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Watch out. Prepare to work extremely hard.Don't work for a salary. Ask for an hourly.No-one works a 40 hour week, so make sure you get something out of it."

What don't you like about working at CSG International?

"The vision is future great but the means to achieve it are presently antiquated. This results in mis/under-allocation of resources, over promising and under delivering to clients and incredibly long stressful hours (60-70/week) to make up for it that are not compensated for in the salary or time away from family."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"You are rearranging the deck chairs on a 20th Century Company obsolescence rather than seeking to transform it into a 21st Century flier. Old ideas keep the company back in a non-competative position. The irony is that the company sees itself as very green and progressive in it's modeling and administration of client programs while wasting incredible amounts of energy on inefficient processes within the org. and wearing out good and talented employees whoI have much more to offer."
