OfficeMax Employee

"Officemax total solutions is a total joke."

What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"Not much. They should stick to focusing on selling commodities (office products) and stop kidding themselves that they are a viable solution provider. The only solution they are providing right now is confusion to their customers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't do it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop 'partnering' and develop your own solutions. Most of the companies that they 'partner' with are direct competitors, thus makes it frustrating for their salespeople. In addition, streamline the report to process; when you have commodity driven salespeople and those you are tasking to sell solutions they need to report into the same organization. Conversely, if total solutions are what you are focusing on, then you should recognize those sales people who have a background in that type of offering and allow them to lead and do their job."

What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"I loved my team and the people I worked with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would seek employment elsewhere if you want a job where you can feel like your job is safe. In this economy an office supply superstore is not essential and I think we will see more store closures in the future."

What don't you like about working at OfficeMax?

"The treatment of associates, and lack of a compassionate HR team. My store was closed, and I had to interview for my position along with another store manager whose store was closed as well. There were two immediate openings for a store manager so you would think that both SM's would be placed right? Wrong! They promoted an ASM to one of the SM positions effectively sending a SM to the unemployment line. The SM who was let go had just been on an all expense paid vacation to Chicago due to his stores performance. While in the meeting the COO said that in this room are the best of the best. Well, I guess being the best of the best wasn't good enough to keep your job in this company."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The company is rumored to be discussing closing additional stores so I would not get too comfortable working with this company."
