What do you like about working at Michaels Arts & Crafts?

"I really do think that my fellow employees are really good hard working people. I enjoy working with creative people and customers as well. I like the Idea of a Large scale retail chain that targets the arts and crafts trend."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you work here don't work hard. breaking your back and going the extra mile only gets you passed up for promotions and opportunities. Don't ever expect to see your family. You will pretty much make enough money to pay for gas and you will have to depend on the government for the rest."

What don't you like about working at Michaels Arts & Crafts?

"I am almost at a loss for words, but they will come.... and not stop! I started in replenishment which has it's numerous flaws. Plano grams that were obviously set by someone who has never stepped foot in a Michael's store. Running out of room for product. Lack of storage for overstock and no effective way of organizing said overstock. unrealistic deadlines for setting plano grams and putting out freight. Lack of properly trained (and able bodied ) staff. Lack of effective way of communicating tasks that needed follow up. I now work in the frame shop or 9th circle At a B volume store. we are completely understaffed! manager will not let us order basic supplies such as large brown paper and paper towels because it affects his bonus! Politic politic politics! give these people a little power and they think they own it all, and know it all. I honestly don't know how the store makes it's goals. The work environment is down right hostel. Not to mention the over 30 year old building is unsafe and unhealthy to work in. the air vents have 3 inch thick coatings of black dust and mold. The guest bathroom has no ventilation. the break-room sink leaks sewer gas and I'm pretty sure there is a good amount of asbestos in that building."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I think a good corporation would recognize that a happy employee base is important to the overall directive. Making money and cutting corners at your employees expense just doesn't make any sense. This company out right lies to their employees each and everyday stating they are trying to help you. No, you're not! What is the point of lying Most importantly. don't treat people like they are indispensable if they are not!"
