"Management is more concerned with improving their position within the company rather than the quality of the work environment. There were constant department reorganizations. I directly reported to 9 people in 5 years."

Kohl's Employee

"I worked for Kohls 3 years. The supervisors/managers tend to put a lot of pressure on the employees to meet unreal expectations and when they did, they were not compensated for their hard work. The best part of the job was seeing the smile of a satisfied customer, and coworker friendship."

"Pros: co-workers are awesome, flexibility, discounts.Cons: pay/non-consistent hours. After working on the registers for a while I have to say I do feel like a robot by the end of the day. Your salary is too low for everything you have to say to a customer. It's a fun environment, everyone gets along with everyone, discounts are great, but unfortunately I watch people cheat the system every day! I forgot my 30% coupon at home. I hear it all the time!"

"I started with this company as a part time job in 2004, but it had become one of my jobs after I was downsized from my full time job in 2005.Opportunities come few and far between. After being promoted to Operations supervisor and transferring to my third store, I realized that retail is not the area I wanted to pursue and is not a match for my managerial skills"

"This isn't a bad company to work for, but there is no management. People don't know what to do usually. Managers are hard to get a hold of and sometimes they don't even know what is going on. The store manager is never available or at the store usually. She doesn't communicate with her managers. There is just too many Indians and not enough chiefs as the saying goes."

Assistant Store Manager

"Unrealistic goals. Ridiculous payroll standards. Horrible merchandising."

What do you like about working at Kohl's?

"My salary is the only good thing, besides my vacation time. The hours are horrible."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you're an experienced manager, go elsewhere. Kohl's only wants kids straight out of college so they can pay them next to nothing."

What don't you like about working at Kohl's?

"I don't like working for poor, condescending upper management who would not be able to survive a tough store environment."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"More payroll will equal a cleaner store. The place is always a wreck."

Customer Service Representative

"It was an extremely unpleasant work environment for near to nothing pay."

What do you like about working at Kohl's?

"Some of my co-workers were pleasant to work with. Not all of them, but some of them."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You don't need to dress to impress at Desert Ridge Kohl's. I don't think the HR representative had even an associate's degree, let alone a bachelor's."

What don't you like about working at Kohl's?

"The micromanagement is beyond comprehension. HR doesn't care, and my supervisor would become dangerously disturbed whenever I wasn't stocking enough merchandise. Multitasking (such as doing 4 things at the same time) is considered standard operating procedure at Desert Ridge Kohl's."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Compensate your employees better, ensure your managers aren't mentally disturbed, and give out some sort of benefits to the workers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be yourself! They like individuals, not drones. If you do not get the job, it wasn't the company for you, nothing personal."

What don't you like about working at Kohl's?

"Hours were always crazy - closing shifts to opening shifts, work for 10 days in a row. It made it very hard to help raise my infant - not to mention find daycare to cover those crazy hours!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Families are important to your employees - make the work-life balance better."
