"I have worked at GM for over 2 years now. The work environment is fantastic . There is a lot of opportunity to learn and grow as a developer. Additionally, there are really smart and friendly people to work with. But on the individual basis there is a lot of stiff competition to get a promotion."

"This was the job I was born to do. I'm sad that the ship sunk. I would have stayed there for life."

"There was nothing I didn't like. It was a nice place to work."

"GM ended up as followers of Honda and Toyota, which is why most of their designs were always a step behind. They should have turned a blind eye to what the competition was putting out and just did their own thing."

"I went there for too little money--a mistake because, as a contractor, I needed enough to live in two places at once."

"The organization consisted of a very complicated matrix, which caused confusion on priorities."

"Simplify the reporting structure of the matrix organization such that the entire group has the same set of priorities and strategic direction."

"Go somewhere else. If you don't immediately become a member of the elite, you will remain a servant to the elite."

"I disliked everything else: management has its head in the sand (still), and the organization is a monarchy. If you are one of the chosen elite, you will succeed in spite of doing nothing but receiving reports from those doing work and making absurd decisions to help run the company into the ground."

"Give up the monarchy system. Start believing what the customer is saying - through Consumer Reports."

"This constantly changes. No help from here."

"I dislike the directors who don't know their employees, and the upper management who says one thing and the middle management who ignores them. I also dislike the fact that diversity takes precedent over skill and knowledge."

"Take a careful look at who is running the departments and ask why Is it because they know someone or is it because they know the job and their employees. I think you will be surprised at the answer."

"To me, they lost the idea of designing cars and became a company of bean counters, and they took diversity way out of context."

"Let the designers in the studio loose to design. Find ways ($$)to get what looks great to market."
