What do you like about working at Dillard's?

"The other employees at Dillard's were good to work with. I started as a sales associate working in the shoe department and was promoted to area sales manager. As an associate, I earned 9.5 percent commission, which was very good around the holidays. The store I worked in is in a college town. During the summer the town gets very quiet and the commission was very bad. When I was promoted to area sales manager the pay was more steady."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Look good when you arrive. If you are looking for a job and ask for an application you will be directed to a computer where you fill out your application. You will be interviewed when you fill out your application. As an area sales manager, I was required to interview anyone who came in to apply. Most were not expecting to be interviewed on the spot. Anyone who was dressed poorly or who didn't fit the part of a salesperson for an upscale department store didn't have a prayer."

What don't you like about working at Dillard's?

"I dislike the pressure to open credit applications. As an associate, you are required to open one credit application per 40 hours worked. If you didn't, then you had to attend a Saturday credit application class. As an area sales manager, you were given a quota for your department. The pressure to open credit apps was constant working both positions."
