"Good workplace, but poor advancement opportunities."

Contractor

What do you like about working at Capital One?

"Capital One was new to me and something different, a job I had never worked before, and I liked working there. It was a good place to work."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just come to work with an open mind and be ready to deal with upset customers and not let it get to you. Take the job one day at a time, and do the best you can, and follow up on all work and details."

What don't you like about working at Capital One?

"I can't say there was anything I did not job like about the job - maybe, just that I wish it had lasted a little longer to see where I would have gone."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I can't say I have any words for management, as it seemed to be working fine the way it was."

Administrative Assistant

What do you like about working at Capital One?

"I worked for Chevy Chase Bank (family environment). Capitol One took over, and then it wasn't like a family environment anymore."

Software Engineer

What do you like about working at Capital One?

"I liked the nice buildings, great office environment, and open seating. The interview with Collaberra took less than 15 minutes. I was told by Collaberra recruiters, We have an exclusive right to hire with Capital One. and We can get you this job immediately! They also gave me pointers and provided insider information on getting the job from a person on the inside doing the job at the time."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Please don't interview for this position--you won't like it. I'm sorry, I have to be totally honest about how I felt (and how many other people feel) about the way this position is managed."

What don't you like about working at Capital One?

"No SE planner has been there more than 8 months !!! Training is AWFUL--worst training I have EVER received. POOR, POOR, POOR. I was only trained on forms. They never bothered to train on the project management process. Training is ALWAYS reactive, NEVER proactive. There is no one way of doing things. This is the worst work environment I have ever seen. The person I sat beside talked about everything on the planet the entire time I was at work, making it difficult to focus on actual work in progress. My boss was absolutely awful. He would not answer questions when I asked them. He got upset frequently and often admonished team members directly. Over 80% of the SE PLANNERs are actively looking for another job... on the job. Trainers from India mumbled and garbled their words. They often get upset when asked any question at all. They provide no information on the process--who to talk to and how to find out who to talk to--they were oblivious. Projects were literally dumped on workers. Some workers were literally in tears, as they had so much work to do without any direction. Nearly everybody complains about the lack of direction from management. Management was incredibly bad. Other departments, specifically the router department and project managers complained constantly about our workloads and lack of direction. Most of my training came from them."

"Worst job ever. There was a lack of training. Trainers mumbled, and the manager was EXTREMELY unsupportive and would not answer questions."

What do you like about working at Capital One?

"They have nice buildings, nice chow hall, and good food. The interview took less than 15 minutes. Collaberra recruiters touted their exclusive hiring contract with CapitalOne--in other words only they can hire for CapitalOne, apparently, and I was guaranteed a job with them right from the start by the recruiter. The recruiter stated, I can get you this job, no problem!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do not apply for the SE planner position. You will regret it! SE planner employees stated that no one had been there longer than 8 months!"

What don't you like about working at Capital One?

"Worst training I have ever received. I was trained as an SE planner - forms training was so-so, there was no, nada, nill, didn't exist training on the processes. The manager failed at every step of the way to provide responses to questions - refused to answer any questions at all. Worse than poor, poor, poor management."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get your crap together!!!! I had high expectations, sorry. Even other project manager agreed that the workload was too much for the SE planners - over 80% of the SE planning workforce is currently looking for another job. Super poor supervision!!! Employees are treated like school children and admonished as often as possible. No rewards for good work exist, only punishment for non-compliance. Working here was awful!"

Business Analyst

"Excellent compensation and career potential, not as cutthroat and excessive work hours as investment banks usually are."

What do you like about working at Capital One?

"Capital One has excellent compensation for an analyst just out of college - 65k base + 15k signing bonus + 5k performance bonus= ~85k right out of school. Also, there are very humane hours (about 50/wk), a collaborative environment, and incredibly intelligent co-workers. There is an excellent set-up for business school in a couple years. Employees frequently move on to Darden (UVA), Fuqua (Duke), and McDonough (Georgetown), as well as many Ivy league."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be smart, courteous, and display the capacity to handle Capital One's business problems during your case interviews."

What don't you like about working at Capital One?

"I guess the only complaint is that many of the incoming analysts are a bit bookish, but the company mainly recruits from elite universities, so that is expected."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Continue recruiting the best and brightest from the US's elite universities, continue offering highly competitive compensation, and the rest will fall into place."
