"A few companies in Cleveland have blacklisted American Greetings employees, as internal systems are proprietary and a high level of bureaucracy and micro-management inhibits critical thinking. I would use the company as a stepping stone for the next opportunity. Do not stay for more than one or two years."

What don't you like about working at American Greetings?

"The company is shrinking in terms of revenue and head count. Workflow processes are inefficient. It is hard to get accurate numbers when working within the company. Stressful, aggressive work environment. Raises average 2.4% / year, offset by a reduction in benefits annually."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Establish an official mentoring program. You have trouble attracting and retaining top talent. You also need to work on developing employees. The current goals review is more of a formality than anything."

"I wasn't working with challenging technology. This was all print production."

"They could have been easier on the interns. There was a learning curve and the job was pretty fast paced."

"Be yourself. Most everyone who you'll work with is very down to earth and you can just relax and show them your personality."

"The senior management in charge of creative aren't creative people themselves. So explaining anything from why we choose a certain color up to why we need computers that can run more then Microsoft Word can be challenging."

"What I liked the most was operating the forklift while pulling orders to ship, and also filling the order lines."

"Ask alot of questions. Be yourself and always follow safety guidelines...."

"What I didn't like was the shift, I worked 3rd shift which made it hard for me to see my son. Also the management was not very active and the safety of the plant was not watched very close. You are prone to be laid off at anytime due to the way the greeting card seasons fall."

"My suggestion would be for them to become more active in promoting safety and listening to what their employees have to say."
