Working at American Greetings in Cleveland, OH: 21 Employee Reviews

American Greetings Employee

"I've worked for AGInteractive for 8 years. We have multiple locations including offices in Europe. I've been afforded the opportunity to learn and progress my career. You are expected to get the job done, praised for doing so, and management simply doesn't get in the way. “It’s not my job” is definitely not part of the vocabulary along with the absence of over-bearing corporate politics, micro managers, and useless\endless meetings. Simply put, it’s an environment that you can do your job, excel, learn new things, and contribute to strategic initiatives with the least amount of managerial BS\interference."

"I've worked for American Greetings for over 20 years. I have held various positions within the company and overall rank this company very good. Like many corporations it does have it's political side and there are good and bad managers. However, overall it is a good company and I believe it will continue to do well in the future."

"The working environment here is not the most healthy, as there is a consistent degree of layoffs year round. Furthermore, there is a high degree of nepotism and most that move up are not always qualified to do so because they rely and take credit for others doing their job(s)."

"Don't get injured on the job! It will be a battle with the workers comp. insurance company to get paid while you are out of work and paid medical treatment! They will find any bogus reason not to approve your claim and then you have to fight for weeks to try and get it approved! In the mean time you suffer physically and financially!"

"I work on the business side (vs. creative) and I will say there is little job security. Everyone knows in marketing the likelihood of being laid off gets higher and higher the longer you're there, regardless of your talent. I've seen very talented people being let go which just validates this perception. Not a place you'll retire at."

"Declining Company + Declining Industry = Problematic Workplace"

What do you like about working at American Greetings?

"I enjoyed being associated with a Creative Product."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"A few companies in Cleveland have blacklisted American Greetings employees, as internal systems are proprietary and a high level of bureaucracy and micro-management inhibits critical thinking. I would use the company as a stepping stone for the next opportunity. Do not stay for more than one or two years."

What don't you like about working at American Greetings?

"The company is shrinking in terms of revenue and head count. Workflow processes are inefficient. It is hard to get accurate numbers when working within the company. Stressful, aggressive work environment. Raises average 2.4% / year, offset by a reduction in benefits annually."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Establish an official mentoring program. You have trouble attracting and retaining top talent. You also need to work on developing employees. The current goals review is more of a formality than anything."
