"There was nothing I didn't like because it was a growing experience that truly helped me grow as a person."

"None, they told the counselors what activities you could do and gave us a boundaries and let us do what we wanted with the kids, it was fun."

"The Y is an organization that helps the community and opens its doors to all, regardless of their ability to pay."

"The benefits are really good, and they pay 8% towards your retirement."

"Demonstrate that you are dedicated to the Y and all it stands for. Do anything it takes."

"Little support or assistance, meager fundraising data, isolated office, difficult board members with little enthusiasm for fundraising."

"Run a conventional capital campaign; recruit new board members, more board member training in fundraising."

"Leadership development training, member services training, collaborative culture, history, people."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Get your foot in the door with a part time job and you will have a better chance of working your way up into a professional role. But stick with it - it could take years for a promotion to open up, and you might have to relocate to another branch (took me 4 years and I moved 250 miles away from home). Have a somewhat outgoing personality, and make connections with customers/members."

What don't you like about working at YMCA?

"The overall organization is great, but each individual branch is different. My branch in particular isn't the greatest place to work at, especially being led by someone like our current exec. I believe a branch's culture starts from the top and trickles down, and ever since he came to our branch the culture has gone through a downward spiral."

"More investment in employees (training, guidance), respect, no favoritism or double-standards."

"The cohesion and friendship of the employees, the counsel of bosses, the free flow of ideas, the effort put into program management."

"Agree with everything they say, then do your own thing. You'll be rewarded for your free thinking."

"Schedules, short staff, lack of chain of command management, youth of employees."

"Desperation (from being short staffed) for employees is what is leading to your short turnover time and overall workplace quality."
