"The beautiful campus, sense of community, the health benefits, good pay and job security. I enjoy educated people who are broad thinkers. The Information School is forward thinking and open and fun!"

"Know as much as you can about the department. Learn about the culture. Know someone! Find out about the politics."

What don't you like about working at University of Washington?

"No pay raises for 5 years. Very political and hard to move into different positions. No flexibility."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would delegate more authority and decision making ability. Trust my subordinates more."

"The faculty position offers excellent collaborative opportunities a high level of independance and good support from mentors."

"Public sector jobs are not competative in compenstation with the private sector but several perks make up for some of the discrepancy. Rewards need to come from the outcomes of your work (teaching, research, patient care, etc.) here beyond financial compensation alone."

"Budgetary constratings working in the public sector limit opportuinities for progress and create unnessisary stress for technical and administrative workers."

"This is difficult to know. The current funding climate restricts the options open to leadership."

"It's in higher education and serves a purpose. Plus, educating students is awesome and being around smart people is great."

"Get hired, take some free classes and get your Master's in ANYTHING - it's definitely skewing toward the more highly educated."

"Between the bureaucracy and inability to make timely decisions is a no-wo/man's land of mismanagement and myopia. It's not that things are bad, per se, it's just no one can recognize it could be so much better."

"Focus more on innovation, keeping education affordable for in-state students, centralize some of the decision-making process so it's smoother and less bureaucratic."

"Regular hours. Contribute to the education and research mission. Good Pay."

"If you are interested in taking classes, any class that gets state money is free to you."

"Lack of innovation. Hard to get tools to work with. Coworkers who didn't use the tools we did have. No movement to other teams."

"More collaboration. Let everyone know what everyone else was doing. Share future plans. Let workers have input into the work they did"

"Since it is a small company, there isn't much career advancement."

"Hard to enroll in university class, parking is expensive, long commute time."

"The only tip I would have is to just be yourself and do your job as best as you can."

"I don't like the fact that there is no room to grow into a better position and my current job."

"I have had a few different ideas that I have brought up to my management and some of them have been put in to place to make the job easier."

"Fun, interesting work. Great support from management, get to travel sometimes."

"Don't come in with a criminal record and try to hide. it."

"Longs hours driving, really not much else. I really like it."

"I really don't have any suggestions for management. They are great."

"One suggestion for those that will interview here is to be yourself."

"Some of the resources are located in other off campus sites."

"I do wish that share resources are centralized, which makes it easier for the staff."

"Great hands on experience developing a life saving medical device."

"Being able to drive the development process for every component of the device."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The company I am working for is more of a proto-company. Essentially a start up company will be generated around the medical device that we are currently building. With that said, for those interviewing for my current position, I would suggest to be as flexible as possible ant to be willing to learn or familiarize yourself in new areas as needed."

What don't you like about working at University of Washington?

"Being a research job through the University of Washington, most of the money that is available is through grants, thus the pay is very bad."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The management is done entirely by our PI. Throughout my experience it's been very efficient, responsive, and positive."

"It was nice to know my co-worker, who was one of my classmates."

"None really, just know your web development fundamentals and skills."

"The pay wasn't that great, but then again, it was a student position."

"None really, it was a good job for being a student."

"Able to do homework during down time. I also it was not a difficult job"

"Just listen to what you are told. This job is temporary and you will not be here for long."

"The job gets boring once all the tasks are done."

"I would be around more often during work hours just to check on my employees."
