"No pay raises for 5 years. Very political and hard to move into different positions. No flexibility."

"I would delegate more authority and decision making ability. Trust my subordinates more."

"Public sector jobs are not competative in compenstation with the private sector but several perks make up for some of the discrepancy. Rewards need to come from the outcomes of your work (teaching, research, patient care, etc.) here beyond financial compensation alone."

"Budgetary constratings working in the public sector limit opportuinities for progress and create unnessisary stress for technical and administrative workers."

"Get hired, take some free classes and get your Master's in ANYTHING - it's definitely skewing toward the more highly educated."

"Between the bureaucracy and inability to make timely decisions is a no-wo/man's land of mismanagement and myopia. It's not that things are bad, per se, it's just no one can recognize it could be so much better."

"Focus more on innovation, keeping education affordable for in-state students, centralize some of the decision-making process so it's smoother and less bureaucratic."

"Lack of innovation. Hard to get tools to work with. Coworkers who didn't use the tools we did have. No movement to other teams."

"I do wish that share resources are centralized, which makes it easier for the staff."

"Being able to drive the development process for every component of the device."

"The company I am working for is more of a proto-company. Essentially a start up company will be generated around the medical device that we are currently building. With that said, for those interviewing for my current position, I would suggest to be as flexible as possible ant to be willing to learn or familiarize yourself in new areas as needed."

"Being a research job through the University of Washington, most of the money that is available is through grants, thus the pay is very bad."

"The management is done entirely by our PI. Throughout my experience it's been very efficient, responsive, and positive."
