"Stale."
What do you like about working at Symantec?
"Prior to acquistition, Vontu was the best company I've worked for. Perhaps, this was because it was a startup. I like the team I'm working on. The work I do has gratifying moments. Being able to contribute directly to the product and the customer satisfaction was rewarding."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Don't unless you're really hungry. The corporate culture is stale and oppressive. Or be prepared to pucker up because only kissups appear to prevail."
What don't you like about working at Symantec?
"Large corporate formula culture. There is a terrific amount of territoriality. Training and advancement was/is discouraged. Customers and product quality is suffering."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Management purge and provide real training. Promote teamwork. Stop outsourcing and start insourcing."
What do you like about working at Symantec?
"Compensation was fairly competitive. Good location in Mountain View. Cafe wasn't too bad. It's not free or anything but I enjoyed the food."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Research, research, research. I got into an area I really didn't have experience in by researching the heck out of the products."
What don't you like about working at Symantec?
"The Storage and Availability business was one of the most toxic places to work. Management was downright disrespectful to employees. There was a lot of instances where employees were cussed out by management. One instance where a pen was thrown at an employee by senior director. Another where an employee was cussed out because a senior manager thought he ordered a drink for himself during a customer happy hour event. I should mention that none of this happened to me, just my colleagues. Much more of tactical position. LOTS of creating powerpoint decks for management. Career development is not a focus here. You're not really expected to make your opinion known for the first 2 years. That's just the way it is.I think the biggest thing to understand about Symantec and this particular business unit, is that Sr. Product Marketing Manager is not an MBA position. The treatment and level of responsibility for a graduate out of MBA school is not appropriate and if that's what you are looking for, then look elsewhere."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Symantec seems like a pretty good place to work outside of the Storage and Availability business. Try to replicate the working environment in the Backup team. You've lost just a ton of employees in the past 6 months. The attrition rate is fairly high. Dig into the data to figure out what's going on. Keep up the compensation. That's what is stemming the tide right now."
"Symantec used to be great."
"Great company to start career."
"People are what drive me!"
"I loved my job until the new CEO was hired. He completely changed the culture for the worse."
"We have very strong engineering team."
What do you like about working at Symantec?
"It's a global leader in its field. The emphasis is on the quality of care we give the customer. Facilities are awesome, new building, cafeteria, gym, all the perks."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Depending on what product you are interviewing for, I'd make sure you know your stuff."
What don't you like about working at Symantec?
"So far the experience has been great, they could provide maybe a massage therapist on site."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"None at all, so far like I have stated above, it's been a great experience. The managers are very receptive, enjoy insight and very knowledgeable."
