"I worked at Symantec from 1991 (as Software Engineer on Norton Utilities 6.0) to 2007 (Technical Director on pcAnywhere). Symantec changed dramatically over that time - first growing rapidly through a number of acquisitions, then consolidating around "security". Overall, Symantec was a great place to work. At the end of my tenure, I think it was having trouble finding its identity."

"This place was the best at taking care of its people and looking out for their success as professional developers."

What do you like about working at Symantec?

"The people looked out for one another. Development work was interesting and exciting. Management looked out to make sure that everyone was actively involved in things. Management was concerned about whether you were happy with the role you had."

What don't you like about working at Symantec?

"The amount of hours sometimes was a little excessive. This was not a routine thing."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Next time you want to consolidate businesses, don't just close a site to save money without giving those who work for you an opportunity to seek other employment."
