"So long as you do your job to the best of your ability, you can be successful and even remove yourself from the constant scrutiny of upper-management."

"The bosses of my boss constantly stop workers to ask what they are doing, tell them to do the task they are already working on, or set them on a menial task ahead of an important one."

"Trust in your mid-level management and lower workers to accomplish what is necessary for the store to be successful."

"I was allowed to use my own creativity when interacting with customers at RadioShack, and because of this I learned a lot from my customers."

"It's retail. They like to hire management from the outside, and getting a promotion is like pulling teeth. There is not enough stimulation or challenges."

"management was judgmental and inefficient. My immediate supervisor would cheat on health related issues."

"make final choices on things before spending labor time doing things. It was not unusual to do something then in the same shift undo that and do something else in the same location"

"I like meeting new people and being around fashion. Also, I like it when I can feel like I've really helped someone and they appreciate it."

"Be clear about your career goals, and be willing to give up healthcare benefits so you can meet the sales per hour goals needed to be promoted. You often need to stay even if it's slow, just so you can meet the number of hours required to have healthcare."
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
"I often feel that the level of expectations about reaching out to customers are not taken seriously by most employees, because the expectations are excessive and would probably turn off many customers."

"I would do more to reward people for performance, based on other things besides ratings based on sales per hour goals. It is a very flawed system for evaluating an employee's performance."

"I would like to have more hours. Sometimes, hours are cut and associates work only five hours a week."

"Zales had the policy that anyone can afford a diamond. Love that they were open to anyone being their customers, not just those who could afford 5-figure jewelry."

"You truly have to love customer service for Zales- whether the price is $99 or $10,000, a purchase @ Zales is a splurge for the customer, and he/she needs to be indulged & fussed over."

"Coming from a department store, I didn't love having only one product to sell."

"Maintain the enthusiasm and good attitude toward anyone who walks into the store- it was a great place to work."

"Polo offered great products, and management was approachable and willing to work just associates- don't always see that in retail."

"If retail is your thing, definitely jump on board- management will give you as much responsibility ask you ask for, and will help you advance. And I loved that they always worked around our scheduling needs."
What don't you like about working at Ralph Lauren?
"There's not much to not like, but I wish the pay was higher."

"Don't stop being on the sales floor with the associates- it's great to see managers straightening the store and helping customers."
