Technical Support Analyst

"Management (and other staff) claim to be open minded, until you disagree..."

What do you like about working at Pearson?

"The benefits were excellent and basically when work was done, you were done. So your evenings, weekends, and holidays were your own. That did rock."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Either agree with everything they say, or stay silent about your beliefs. Of course if you are a far far far left believer/enviro-terrorist/anti-corporation type, you will fit right in. (Which is kind of funny when you think about them being part of a global organization that prints books...)."

What don't you like about working at Pearson?

"The Berekely office was just way too hippy. Group hugs and feeling discussions over yogurt type stuff. As feeling oriented and in touch as they were, they were incredibly mean spirited. If you don't share their feelings (especially politically), you are ostracised. Don't get me wrong, I love the hippy attitude, but politics and religion are the two things that you shouldn't make part of your work environment.Secondly, there was no where to go. You wouldn't even be notified that there was a position, just suddenly someone new was there. No one internal was considered for management/executive positions, they always looked outside.I was there for years and never saw it happen. Also the stability of the publishing business has been up and down over the last decade, so job security is a big question mark."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"That particular office, is probably hopeless, but lighten up on the political stuff and look internally. There are (or were when I was there) a lot of talented people...make use of them."
