"I think individuals work here in Eau Claire at the CO because they are local and do not know what else is out there. This company underpays it's Team Members, overworks them, as it bases their salary on 45 hours a week (everyone is hourly here), no sick time, limited vacation and a bonus you only get after working there a year straight...which they include in your salary. The environment is oppressive and depressing. If you are in IT you can do much better, trust me!"
"Menards is a great company. They provide excellent training and care about how you are doing with them. They are profitable and keep costs down for their customers. They also provide a good environment for working."
"Looks are deceiving. Menards doesn't care about you."

What don't you like about working at Menards?
"I have worked for Menards for almost 25 years. The only reason I am still there is that I am almost 50 and I don't know what I want to do now and I am limited as far as moving. The first 10 years were pretty good with constant pay increases, more vacation time, and opportunity to move up. After 10 years you are pretty much maxed out in pay and benefits unless you are promoted to a higher position. You can make great money, but you have to pay for it with large amounts of overtime (50-60 hours a week) and demanding goals. Most jobs are not for people with families, as you will work many weekends, holidays, and long hours. Menards is only closed Christmas and Thanksgiving, but I'm sure we will soon be open Thanksgiving. Any day not open is a loss for the richest man in Wisconsin, but he won't be working holidays. I have not received a pay increase in 10 years and that includes any cost of living increase. I am maxed out for the pay scale as I am making an incredible wage of just under $12.00 for 25 years of loyalty and experience. I have worked with and for some great people, but many of them have been let go or quit for better jobs. Loyalty means nothing to Menards except they want 100% loyalty from YOU! Experience means nothing to them. 25 days or 25 years, you are expendable. Menards does not pay for anything. You must pay for all of your equipment including badges. OK. They give you 1 shirt. Don't say hI to another co-worker or you will be accused of standing around. Corporate office video views you from the cameras in the ceiling. YES. IT'S TRUE! They will actually call the department manager and/or store manager if they see something they don't like. Corporate sends department managers so many tasks via the department computer that they hardly have time to run their department and it makes them irritable, which make you irritable. The payroll that the departments receive is so low that it is very stressful on employees and management. You never seem to have enough people to get anything done, and there is a lot of stock to be put away and downstocked. I want to say this to Menards customers. If it seems that there is nobody around to help you, it's because the payroll is so low that the workers are desperately trying to get the stock put out so they can go home. There is NO SICK PAY! John Menard does not believe in paying people to be sick, EVEN IF YOU'RE IN THE HOSPITAL!!! If you do not have vacation days to use up, you could go broke. You probably will anyway with the $70.00 a WEEK health insurance that covers 80% AFTER your $1500. 00 deductible! Dental is only for teeth cleaning and 1 set of x-rays a year. Get a cavity or worse and it will cost you thousands. You get some money off eye exams, but no glasses. Remember this if you really want to work there. It only takes 1 manager who doesn't like you to kill your career. Don't try for a promotion that his buddy is going for, or you could be in a bad way quick."
