Submit a Review"I love that my biggest strengths are my greatest assets as an Interaction Designer. My biggest strength is my organizational ability, so being an Interaction Designer made sense. I'm also very creative, so this role allows me to use both of these skills. In my experience, getting to the end product without going tremendously over budget is the most difficult aspect of being an Interaction Designer, so at times I hate that. It takes a lot of resources to create a web or mobile product or service, and most projects end up costing much more than was originally expected or budgeted for."

"Working on technologies involving space and robots are cool, but that was the only redeeming quality."

"Don't bother, go work in private sector, especially if you're working in computer technology."
What don't you like about working at NASA?
"Bureaucracy, incompetent contractors in Houston, poor management decisions specifically with regards to technology, corruption between contractors and the government."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"None, these problems can't be solved in a government agency, that's why I left."

"lack of communication, changing priorities, canceled projects, executives not giving clear direction - deadlines changing constantly"

"this is a pretty good place to work. However, you'll have to work quickly and not hold on to the idea of perfection."

"Understand what each person does in the company so that I could make policies and decisions that effect their lives in a positive way."

"No need for suits or business attire. That's one thing monster gets."

"Expect a lot of churn, and be realistic about how slowly things can move at a big company."

"The culture fears change and yet is constantly trying to create innovation. Projects are often abandoned, under-strategized, or launched without much thought. Imposed timelines create pressure before project scope is determined at times."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Increase autonomy, decrease micromanagement, enable teams to make their own decisions and take acceptable risks when subjectivity is the only real metric."

"It's a big corporation with great resources. Products can be sold worldwide."

"Michigan is too far away from the environment where I can get good resources and networking."

"Reward the designers more often with design conferences, resources, contacts, etc."

"Be strong and confident, need to have good work samples, however as long as one is sincere, all is great."

"Compensation is not very good. It is very low compared to market standards. Career growth is very slow."

"Increase compensation at least to match the market standards. Talents should be allowed to grow quick enough and not let them be wasted."
