"I would always have a job. People were always getting arrested. Never a shortage of prisnors."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be strong, dont make friends with the inmates. Always watch your back and pay attention to details."

What don't you like about working at Department of Corrections?

"Working with the prisnors. Getting spit on, or yelled at by them daily. Not having the safety or security to back an officer up if something happened."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Remember where they came from. Once a person received a promotion, its like they forgot how hard it was to work."

What do you like about working at Department of Corrections?

"interacting with inmates on a daily basis, talking with them about their plans for life after incarceration. Leading worship services where personal expression was encouraged. Speaking with family members of inmates to find out what their needs were. Conducting tele-conferences with inmates and family members. Planning and implementing special days inside the facility, i.e. Hispanic Heritage Day, Voluteer Recognition Day, etc."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be honest about everything you say, especially background information that can easily be checkout. Have a heart to deal with people where you meet them, without prejudice."

What don't you like about working at Department of Corrections?

"As you might imagine working in a correctional facility could be daunting some days because of the interaction with people who have committed the most henious crimes. Having to inform inmates of family deaths and/or illness, and vice versa was not an especially happy time. Otherwise I always tried to look for the best in each situation."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Encourage those workers who might not have been as forward thinking to join the rest of us."
