"I have worked in organizations where we were upgrading Oracle 10g to 11g and because the upgrade impacted more than 300 customer institutions with thousands of individual customers, we had a 14 stage testing phase for just this upgrade. Copart's business rests on 3 pillars - Backend database, Website and Auction Engine. The applications were hosted in Copart's own Network Operations Center. Copart's CTO decided that: Upgrades to Backend database and website were to be carried out. AND The Network Operations Center was to be outsourced to two vendors. With an overlapping time schedule! Can anyone imagine the risk to the more than $800M annual revenue of the organization? Not surprisingly, only the website has been upgraded. The vendor for the Backend Database upgrade is locked in lawsuits and counter lawsuits with Copart. While the outsourcing of the NOC is unknown."
"The organization was good to me. However, in spite of successfully delivering more than 150 releases - without a single exception - over a period of 10 months without a single defect reported undetected post-release in production, our department was one of the most successful departments but even though I was the head of the department, my position was eliminated."
