Cashier at WinCo Foods
in Portland, OR

What do you like about working at WinCo Foods?

"I don't find much that I like about working at winco foods."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Winco Foods is not about the individual. If you want a job with them you need to be willing to sacrifice your self for the betterment of the company. Without a willingness to do so you've got no chance in hell."

What don't you like about working at WinCo Foods?

"It's a soul sucking job. People have absolutely no appreciation for those who work in a customer service environment and really the main thing that makes it such a sucky career is not the employees, management, or even store practices but it's more the customers you have to deal with. Everyone who shops at a grocery store feels self entitled as if every one should bow to their every whim. They complain, nothing is ever right, if the prices are too high they complain if they are too low they say their not low enough. It's b.s. and it upsets me with every breath I take."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I'd probably at least add music to the sales floor. It would surprise people just how much employees could release stress by listening to mindless music."

Cashier at Lowe's
in Beaufort, SC

What do you like about working at Lowe's?

"Lowe's pays more than other retail jobs, and it's easier to get a full-time position."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"It's a job. If you're a dude, you're set, and unless you are completely lazy, you'll be promoted eventually. If you're a woman, unless you've been in a skilled vocation or are really lucky, you will be a cashier and that is all you will be. They might add a head in front of that title, but you will be stuck on the front end unless they are really desperate for someone on the sales floor or in the back. They will claim you are the most important employees but they will treat you like crap."

What don't you like about working at Lowe's?

"It's the people. Customers can be good or bad; it comes with the territory. Some co-workers I could do without - the ones who don't say a thing to you until they need or want something, the ones who don't do anything but still manage to keep their job, and the ones who think they're better than you and talk down to you. I don't like the managers who will not back policy because they believe it's good customer service or are too lazy to deal with a problem, and the ones who don't do anything."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would follow the rules set out for all employees instead of thinking they are for everyone else, and I wouldn't be so capricious about what my employees' tasks are. I wouldn't micromanage just because I'm bored and can't sneak off to the back to talk with my friends."

Cashier at University of Idaho

What do you like about working at University of Idaho?

"I like Meeting new people, helping students, being self-directed and my own boss."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"They really value customer service, and that's good. It's not so good that they don't value their employees the same way."

What don't you like about working at University of Idaho?

"Boring during slow hours, and very little opportunity for growth. It's not a career, it's just a job."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Not much. Retail is not really personally fulfilling, it's not his fault."

Cashier at McDonald's
in Niagara Falls, NY

What do you like about working at McDonald's?

"I like that the work is constant. I like that everybody there (not including the upper management - ugh) realizes that working at McDonald's is a crappy job and that work is not every employee's whole life. I like that I can fall into a routine and become very, very good at what I do. I like that there is some variety in the work I do, since there are three different positions within the restaurant for a worker like me: cashier for front counter, first booth in drive-through, and second booth. And even then there are sub-jobs and whatnot. I never know for sure where I'll be when I come into work, and they encourage you to branch out and try new parts of the restaurant."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The more open your schedule is the more likely they'll want to hire you. Be friendly, nerdy, and make yourself sound reliable. The manager knows that it's a crappy job, but he just wants someone he can rely on to show up for shifts and get the work done. ANY experience you have in a fast-paced environment will help you get the job at McDonald's."

What don't you like about working at McDonald's?

"The amount of work you do as opposed to how much you get paid is unfair. The managers can be horrible and incredibly anal, but mostly I just feel bad for them since McDonald's is their whole life. I hate the customers. Most are total creeps. I hate the workplace drama that comes from time to time. I hate the stupid upselling that we have to do. I hate serving our food to obese people. It makes me feel like I'm their dealer. I hate being in a constant rush."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would make the upper management/owner work in the store. I would organize breaks better."

Cashier at Regal Entertainment Group
in Newport News, VA

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Horrible job."

What do you like about working at Regal Entertainment Group?

"Just the free movies. Other than that, it's a pretty bad company to work for. Don't do it, I don't care about the recession or how desperate you are. Don't do it."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Yes, find another place to apply. I'm not kidding, nor am I exaggerating."

What don't you like about working at Regal Entertainment Group?

"Everything. The managers are immature and gossipy, will talk about you behind your back if they think you're out of earshot. And they're not polite about it at all. I've had managers lie to me and to others. And cleaning up human waste in the bathrooms and the gloves they provide you with to do that sort of work are very thin and they rip if they become too wet. I don't get paid enough to clean up urine and worse, and i'm not doing it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"First off, grow up. Second, don't make someone a manager just because they've been there awhile. Third, be nicer to your employees."
