Branch Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car
in Suitland, MD

"I enjoy being responsible for the performance of a team. I also enjoy working with a diverse group of people, and being able to interact with a large cross section of society on a daily basis. I dislike having to deal with unreasonable customers, and key accounts. I dislike constantly being thrown under the bus by upper management. I dislike not being able to hold individuals accountable for poor performance."

"I love working with and helping my customers, whether it be just by conversations or having a staff employee help them with a product that may benefit them. I try to create an excellent employee experience as well as an excellent customer experience. However, I do not love when we have an employee that leaves the company and it takes quite some time to get a requisition allowed to be placed since the company is trying to work with less staff."

"I love helping loan officers structure their deals. I hate the number of iterations of loan documents caused by the Dodd Frank laws. I do not digree with their intent but it is oveerkill and drags the process out too long."

"Too stressful. You feel like it's eventually going to get better but every day the work life balance diminishes. If you really want to make money then you have to put in a lot of time. And when they don't pay you enough for the time you put in and you become unhappy, they fire you for telling them that."

Branch Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Great to cut your teeth on how and how not to manage. Not ideal for long-term."

What do you like about working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car?

"You grow and develop personally as much as professionally. Enterprise in any division will teach you about hard work, accountability, leadership and sales. The pay is terrible at entry levels but improves somewhat at Assistant Manager, quite a bit at Manager and very strongly at Area Manager and above (if you can get there)."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Interviews are largely behavioral. Don't discuss what you would do or how you would handle a situation; instead discuss when that has happened to you in the past and how you approached the situation. Also, focus heavily on tangible successes you achieved."

What don't you like about working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car?

"Long hours typical of any similar management level position. Intro Trainee hours listed at 49 but closer to 52. Assistant listed at 51 but actually 55 and Branch Manager 55 minimum. Attendance at post-work functions demonstrate leadership and are necessary to advance. The numerical performance can be weighted too heavily (how many people can I REALLY convince to come and rent from me after all) or not heavily enough if you have great numbers but your leadership isn't enough."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"None that would be successfully implemented. I worked my way up to Branch Manager in both the rent a car, then rent a truck divisions. In every case the culture at this company is paramount. If you fit into that culture (aggressive salesperson, good with people but only so far as they will help your own advancement--just like all businesses, I guess, and willing to work long hours and jeopardize your family life) then you will advance. The culture is so strong in fact, I found it almost cult-like in that you MUST not just work hard and perform, but doing so fitting their profile for what a Manager should look like and act like. I was employed by Enterprise for 11 years and while I would definitely go back and do it again given what I learned, I would make some distinct changes and would definitely NOT do it for as long as I did. 3-5 years is your sweet spot unless you are a super-achiever."

Branch Manager at Roth Staffing
in Orange, CA

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"You set yourself up for failure by working here."

What do you like about working at Roth Staffing?

"The salary and bonus structure is competitive."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"It's a tough process. Just make sure you are honest. They check your W2 and other things. I watched a lot of people get fired before hired."

What don't you like about working at Roth Staffing?

"Each person in a branch (set up of 2-3 people) are expected to answer the phone, interview 5-10 people, add leads, connect with 50 HR people via phone (emails don't count) a week, go out on 4-8 sales visits (but make sure someone is in the office to cover phones), unemployment claims, payroll, ref checks, council employee's, send out mailings, campaigns, and more all while memorizing the new sayings they come up with on call. Outcome is set up for you to sign a document saying you failed to hit 95% (94% and below is in the red). Ask us to complete surveys so they can win best place to work for. Imagine if one person was off work in you branch! You are expected to meet their metrics as well as yours."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would think you would invest in your employee's to help them grow. Running this lean and have metrics that high is setting people up to fail. Top it off making us write positive reviews in fear of losing our jobs. I can't pretend anymore."

Branch Manager at Larson-Juhl Frames
in Brecksville, OH

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"This company has morphed into something totally different than what it once was."

What do you like about working at Larson-Juhl Frames?

"Until the last year, it was team oriented and the values were our strength. We had new senior management took over and replaced our values for numbers and micro management."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Turnover is increasing and the values have taken second fiddle to the numbers."

What don't you like about working at Larson-Juhl Frames?

"The ability of senior management to make so many wrong decisions yet retain their jobs while they actively pursue an agenda of branch closings, hidden agendas and clicks"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Return to the values that made LJ such a success. Stop the micromanagement and stop assuming that simply because of your senior ranks, you have all the answers."

Branch Manager at Bank of America
in Portland, OR

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Good company overall, but working thru some issues like any big bank."

What do you like about working at Bank of America?

"Flexible, and room to grow in your career. Great benefits, and good pay."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Negotiate your salary coming in the door. They will low ball you and then it's hard to get any sort of increase that is significant."

What don't you like about working at Bank of America?

"They keep cutting staff and closing branches. The foot traffic has decreased, but when the branch is stripped down to the bare bones, and then someone is sick, on vacation, or on a leave of absence, there is no help."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Happy employees = happy customers. 1 person can't be expected to do the job of 3."

Branch Manager at Citizens Bank

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Stay away"

What do you like about working at Citizens Bank?

"Very little. I originally liked the brand but when I learned they were not customer focused I no longer cared for their practices."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Yes, Citizens gives raises between 0 and .5% annually lately. They pay under market for their people and only give proper comp when you are coming from a competitor. If you need a place to pay for your training go to Citizens. Get all the training you need and then go take a job for at least 20% more than what Citizens is paying you at any other regional bank (which should be very easy to do). If you want to go back only now will Citizens pay market rate for your skills. They have almost a 50% turnover rate per annum region to region because they dont take care of their people. The number of people who leave and come back is not a testament that its a great place to work...its a testament that the employees know they have no upwards opportunity and with raises being almost nonexistent and insignificant when they do exist, the only way to get paid what you are worth is to force yourself back onto the open market. as a result there is a ton of turnover, little loyalty, and always staffing issues. Very disappointing."

What don't you like about working at Citizens Bank?

"They take advantage of their employees. There is always a reason not to pay out on goals reached. Every year they tweak the comp plan so the company wont have to pay bonuses out. They repeatedly violate workplace laws and require employees to work through lunch in the branches. They are aware of what they are doing and have paid penalties on this before but feel the overall benefit is greater than the penalties assessed. Its hard to have a family life if you work in the branches at Citizens."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"None really as they don't take suggestion. Its a tough business and they will continue to do what they need to and cut corners until they get a stiff enough penalty to straighten them out. My suggestion would be to those considering working there...to whom I would suggest looking elsewhere."
