"I've worked at Bed Bath & Beyond for 7 1/2 years, and it was a great experience when I originally started, but after 2 to 3 years in the company you find out that it's no different than any other old school management company."

"I have been with the company for 4 years now. I began working at BB&B when I was 16 and honestly the only reason I'm still there is because the hours are very flexible and easily allow you to take a second job. The raises are virtually nonexistent and after two years of work I had only seen an increase of 30 cents. In order to make a rate that more accurately reflected the experience and quality of my work, my manager had to remove me from the system and effectively "rehire" me."

"In a very short time I have learned to not look forward to going to work. I have had it with the ridiculous return policy, that outlives the actual warranty of the product. I have overheard customers make comment on how they haven't bought this or that in years. They just bring it back and get a new one. Some of the most disgusting stuff on the planet I've had to smile and return. And that stupid coupon policy. We live in an unbelievable irresponsible society and this company doesn't help."

"I've been working for BBB for a little over a year now, within that year I have learned a thing or two about this company. One would be that you're basically working your butt off for little pay, you may say oh well, I work my butt off at my job for little pay so what makes you different, well I'll tell you. This company has over 1,000 stores and makes millions of money but no room for improvement. No room for a pay raise. No room for hours because we are a small store."

"I've worked for BBB for over 5 years. Contrary to what others have posted, there is plenty of room for advancement. I am proof. I started at the bottom and have my dream position now. My pay is excellent. The hard truth for most: retail is tough! Period! It is not for everyone. You have to work hard, you have to own your decisions, own your future and don't blame everyone else when you don't succeed."

"I love most of my co-workers. Can't wait to find another job though!"

What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"I really love most of the people I work with and a good majority of the customers I interact with and help. They make work fun and bearable."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"They're going to tell you the latest you'll work is 11 PM. This is somewhat of a lie because sometimes you're stuck there until midnight or later, especially during the holidays. Beware of the kiss-ass mentality. I guess that goes for all jobs, but it seems really bad at BBB--especially when corporate rolls into the store. Also beware of managers who think they're a worthier human being than you are simply because they're retail managers and you're just a little part-timer. If you're going for part time, they may start you off at 20-24 hours a week, but that could all change depending on whether or not the higher ups are making enough money. I mean, that's what it comes down to, right? They need to keep making their millions cuz if they only made a couple hundred thousand a year, life would just be *unbearable*."

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"I hate the way managers think they're above you because they're managers at a big box store. The corporate idiots are even worse. They talk down to you like you're some kind of moron, when the only difference between me and them is that I was born intelligent and they had mom and dad buy them their education. There's no room for advancement unless you kowtow. The hours are terrible (what little hours I get). Since everyone's hours in my store have been cut, there aren't enough people on the floor to help customers. We (the employees) are unhappy about this and customers are even less happy about it. This company is supposed to be all about the customer service. It's their motto! But BBB isn't all about the customer service. They're all about their bottom line and that's *it*. The store is cold in the winter and *so* hot in the summer. Customers complain about how hot it gets in our store. But we can't do anything about it because the store temp is controlled by... yes, you guessed it: corporate headquarters. They're cheapskates. What company allows their employees to sweat terribly in the summer and freeze in the winter? I can't stand some of the customers. Rude people who practically have temper tantrums when we don't give in to their ridiculous requests. To be fair though, most customers I help are very nice. You literally *cannot* go to the bathroom without letting the manager on duty (MOD) know. They ask you to call it out just in case there's a fire or something, but really I've *never* worked somewhere where you couldn't go to the bathroom without telling a MOD first. I hate all the constantly changing, arbitrary rules. Not only are they always changing and totally arbitrary, but different managers tell you different things, so no one is ever on the same page about how things need to be done."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"You should support your staff and fight to get people more hours. They don't pay me enough money to live on. Like, I literally can't always afford to go food shopping. Bet the CEO and other higher ups don't have that problem! How is that acceptable? How do you live with yourself knowing some of your employees can't even afford to buy groceries? How is that okay?"

What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"I like the merchandising challenges, helping customers with legitimate questions, and the employee discount."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't bother. Brick-and-mortar retail is a suffering industry. No one deserves the abuse from customers you will get if you start here."

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"Using old technology that a lot of customers ridicule. Not enough labor hours to appropriately cover shifts. Lots of talk about training and expertise, backed up by weak and ineffective instruction and little followup. And most of all, the utter slavery to the fallacy that the customer is always right."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Increase spending on labor, and invest in upgrading the stores' inventory systems and infrastructure."

"My dept MOD is awesome with training, etc. BBB needs work in general though!"

What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"The fast paced environment, most of my co-workers are extremely hard working, supportive, and helpful!! I've gained a ton of knowledge on products/brands I've always had an interest in learning about but probably wouldn't have ever pursued without working for BBB."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Whether dealing with the staff or customers, be assertive and confident, but make sure you don't come off as being pushy or forceful, and most of all, be enthusiastic at all times on the sales floor!"

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"Undue favoritism seems to be the rationale at BBB; therefore, there doesn't seem to be enough opportunities to move up in the company for those of us who truly deserve it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"There are too many to list, it'd take me all day!"
