What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"There were many learning opportunities as far as product knowledge. Supportive co-workers (aside from upper management). If you're looking for a job/career where outstanding customer service is your top priority then this is the company you should work for!!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I want to just point out that my actual salary wasn't even an option on this thing's list of choices!!! If you know how to truly stand out in a really, really good way and can afford to have your hours cut down to less than 25 hours a week occasionally (sometimes more frequently) then I say go for it!! But probably the best piece of advice I can offer to anyone interviewing at BBB is this: Don't allow them to walk all over you or try to overshadow your skills, etc., let your personality and experience shine bright!!!!!"

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"I was offered a higher position along with another co-worker, was told different stories by every manager when I'd ask when I'd be starting training for the position, finally I was told I had to go through bridal training in order to become full time in the new position. Once I completed consultant training and every single university class at the store, I was told I had become too much of an asset to the bridal department for them to put me anywhere else!! I can't begin to tell you how tricked and cheated I felt. The worst part is that I'm a single mother trying to raise a child all alone in this economy!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I'd start with getting things organized!! Our store hires a lot of college students who are upfront with their availability limitations but every week when the schedule is posted, a good half of those student employees are scheduled during a shift or day they indicated they wouldn't be available to work. In my opinion, this is due to a lack of organization by the scheduling manager who is responsible for keeping track of all employees availability whether limited or not! I would give credit to the associates who actually put in the physical work of keeping the store clean, stocked, put together, etc. instead of taking credit for the hard work of others around me like I see happen and have had happen to me on a daily basis!! I'd also make for damn certain that the employees that are lower on the totem pole were treated with the respect and care they deserve to be treated as human beings with children and families!"

"BBB has no respect for the folks at the bottom who make it all work."

What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"It's hard to get fired. But I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing. I can't even say the discount is worth it cause we get the same as any customer."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't. Save yourself the mental anguish and stress. If you're terribly in need of a job and there's nowhere else to go, go for it. Otherwise, take the time to find something worthwhile."

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"Where do I begin? BBB will inform employees when they spend millions of dollars to acquire World Market (almost gloating about it), and they'll let you know how your added responsibilities saved the company millions, but mum's the word when you try to discuss compensation for additional duties. They couldn't even come up with a lie. The systems we work with are antiquated, constantly freezing when tasked with all of what we do on a daily basis. This causes frustration not only with employees, but also customers that have to wait while the computer catches up. Morale is terribly low but as long as there's a butt in the seat to answer BBB's beloved customers, BBB is happy. Instead of offering Free Shipping like our competitors do, they'd rather have us accommodate whenever a customer compares and complains. Why not just make shipping free to avoid the complaints/accommodations in the first place? Marketing is slimy in that they use colorful language to create loopholes and whatnot. NOTHING is straightforward with this company. The review sheet that determines whether we get a raise or not is unclear, when I brought my concern to HR a number of months ago, she took notes and I haven't heard from her since. I was mismanaged for a number of months, no manager feedback/coaching, and when this was brought to the attention of those that matter, I was essentially told what's done is done. They provide you with a handbook, but not everything applies, depending on where you work, and there are a number of unwritten policies that seem to change day to day, depending on who you ask. They discourage us from even approaching a Union Representative in the handbook. I wonder why that is... Forget about spending the holidays with your family--being there for BBB customers is more important. Compliments really don't matter, it's the complaints that count. Regardless of how rude or nasty or unreasonable a customer is to you, if they complain, expect to be reprimanded. You could have 75 compliments for outstanding service, but rest assured your raise will suffer from one complaint. It feels like we're expected to be robots here."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Develop some semblance of respect for your employees. Understand that we are HUMAN 1st, and that we have lives and trouble just like customers do. Corporate sits on the hill making big bucks, spending weekends and holidays enjoying life with their family, recognize that your subordinates aren't lucky enough to have such luxuries."

"Horrible. Management doesn't care about anyone."

What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"I made a decent hourly salary, especially for having no prior experience."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just don't bother. Save yourself the inevitable depression. If you do have to interview, just enthuse about the company. Once you get hired, spend all your spare time looking for a different job."

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"I was talked down to almost every day by management; one manager seemed to revel in making me cry. I was yelled at and harassed by customers whose problems were due to poor store management and a lack of employee resources (and a lack of adequate staff). My friends were sexually harassed, and we were all depressed from work. I had anxiety attacks about going to work. It was a dismal environment with utmost respect for customers (even the out-of-line ones) and no respect for lower and mid-level employees."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Give a crap about the people who work under you. Don't yell. Acknowledge that the customer isn't actually always right; they're usually wrong. Just treat everyone with dignity and acknowledge a job well done. Also, don't keep us until two in the morning closing, when our shift ended at 11. That's ridiculous."

"Don't do it. You will regret it. Take everyone's word for it."

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"Not enough time to properly complete any job the right way the first time. Poor, lazy management, and no one was held to the same expectations. There was no consistency and HR is useless. They will always support their managers, no matter the situation."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Work harder, talk less, get out of the office and work along side the rest of the people."
