"Bad, bad management. Working here until I find something else."

What do you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Some of the people I work with. The location is conveniently next to an expressway exit. Ok selection of nearby food choices for lunch."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would recommend looking somewhere else for a job unless you are really hard up."

What don't you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Some of the people I work with. The company is completely mismanaged. PIC uses outdated technology. Programmers are still using 1980's and 1990's programming languages and yet we are called Programmers Investment Corporation. There is a lot of favoritism, especially in customer service. People make racist and sexist comments including the executives and this can be very uncomfortable because you obviously can't complain to them. It is very slow, which is depressing, especially when employees are asked to leave early each day. Hard work is not recognized in money, only a small pat on the back. Everyone complains how money is mishandled and expects PIC to close within a year so the morale is very low."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Clean house from the managers on up. Put a trusted individual in place whom employees can go to to talk about their work environment. Stop bringing in these little fly by night clients that don't have any volume and hire salesmen to bring in established clients, although truth is PIC is probably not attractive to established clients, so that might be nearly impossible."

What do you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Programmers Investment Corp (PIC) can provide a comfortable work environment as most coworkers and management are friendly and easy to get along with. PIC employees often gather together after work hours for fun activities."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You should go elsewhere. This company does not appreciate its employees."

What don't you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Because of lost clients and an increased amount of annual layoffs in recent years, many people employees (at all levels) openly discuss the company's impending collapse, which is not very inspiring to those who see a future at PIC. Employees in leadership positions should be more encouraging about the company's future instead. Most employees are on a current pay cut that was supposed to last no more than 6 months - that was almost two years ago. The ceiling for advancement is not very high. A change in health insurance forced many employees to drop it due to higher rates. In what is mainly a white suburban run company, unfortunately, racism does exist on some levels. Also, outside of a couple managers, the only area in which diversity is present is in lower level employees."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Utilize a much lower paid employee such as a customer service agent, mail room employee or other volunteer to handle menial tasks as taking out the garbage, filling paper towel holders, plunge toilets, etc rather than a top paid executive - That this is currently allowed is ridiculous and is very discouraging to those who work hard all day. PIC is outdated in many ways, which is a large reason for decline. PIC should be more in touch with companies of today and catch up with current programming languages. I would suggest an executive field trip to a handful of growing companies downtown in order to analyze modern work environments. Be more selective and fair when doing annual layoffs. Too much dead weight entrenched in the company always seems to remain while many productive employees are being let go."

"More bad than good."

What do you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Convenient location from west suburbs just off Kennedy Expressway. Most coworkers are easy to get along and work with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Keep looking. There are many great companies to work for out there and this is not one of them."

What don't you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Employees are overworked because of repeated bad decisions made by executives. Company loses money because we make promises to clients in areas that we are not experienced in doing and thus cannot meet deadlines on many occasions. This results in far too many layoffs. People that do not hold their weight often survive layoffs while more capable employees are let go. Company lacks professionals. Morale is low. Company does not allow for much internal growth. Company is well behind the times and struggles to keep up."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Company should pay to hire from the outside and bring in professionals from growing and successful companies with new and/or proven strategies. Do more research when it comes to bringing in new clients and make sure we can accommodate accordingly rather than attempting to learn as we go."

"Like many others, I feel I have outgrown the company."

What do you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"I enjoy being around many of my coworkers. The job isn't one you take home, the president is very approachable, is a good leader and makes himself accessible to everyone. Department provides good amount of flexibility and a relaxed atmosphere so long as production and quality remain high. This works well for everyone - company and employee."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are looking for growth potential look elsewhere. If you are in a pinch for a job until you find something else, PIC can be a comfortable pit stop, but be careful - it can all of a sudden be five years later!"

What don't you like about working at Programmers Investment Corp?

"Each year the number of employees gets smaller. Many in the company are working with a pay cut that was supposed to last just six months but is going on two years. Everyone is always nervous about being laid off due to loss of large, long time clients. PIC holds onto an old-fashioned, white, suburban mentality that is dying in the business world. Growth within the company is very limited. Health benefits are too expensive for many to keep with recent change."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I suggest the company hire programmers that are using more current languages in order to get in touch with the modern business world. Senior Management should visit growing downtown companies and take notes on modern workplaces, environments and employee handling and implement what they learn at PIC. I suggest that the company utilize a lower level employee to handle light janitorial work when needed daily rather than utilizing one of the largest company salaries to do so. PIC really needs more diversity in upper management positions."
