"Most sales teams only had one customer. The environment was extremely competitive. You had to build deep relationships with your customer in order to put your team into position to meet quota."

"Alcatel has excellent benefits and compensation packages. I left Alcatel due to numerous layoffs occurring at the time, including my department where most marketing positions had already moved to Plano, TX."

"Stayed with the company for 10 years and had the opportunity to work within several different positions and departments during that time."

"Skills, skills, skills. This is a very technology savvy company and they only hire top performers!"

What don't you like about working at Alcatel-Lucent?

"The company had 130,000 employees before RIF's began. By the time I left, they had 65,000 employees worldwide. My department had over 100 employees in marketing/sales operations, when I left the company they had only 5 employees. My concern was that eventually my position would be eliminated. I acquired the position at Ixia and at a higher salary."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I believe it's important for employees and their managers to work closely and communicate consistently. One of my managers had too many people reporting to her to maintain that kind of relationship. My advice would be to limit the number of people reporting to a single manager to 30 at the most."
