Web Designer at NxTV
in Woodland Hills, CA

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"NxTV had the potential to succeed as a start-up IPTV VOD company, but less-than adequate industry insight and recession resulted in the company's fragmentation."

What do you like about working at NxTV?

"Working for NxTV was exciting! Building UI interfaces that feature VOD Hollywood Hits to 5-star hotels worldwide. All NxTV movies were released to hotels well before the video stores could offer them. I loved the experience and the knowledge (both technically, ie scripting/coding and visually, ie user experience analysis) that I've gained from my 11 years of service. My peers were excellent to work with I have benefited in all ways imaginable."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"God bless and best wishes (proceed with caution) I hope they succeed in their venture..."

What don't you like about working at NxTV?

"Because this was a start-up company, many sacrifices were happily made on NxTV's behalf by myself and may others. Salary and benefits were understandably minimal, but the likelihood of future enterprising success seems worth the hard work. But I disagreed, when NxTV decided to prematurely retire their still-young, Flash-based application in favor of a C# based solution (a step backward as far as Internet expandability is concerned where as Flash easily supports Internet enabled devises). Later the C# application was abandoned and an HTML based interface was decided upon. I disagreed with this also from a technical standpoint. My suggestion was to resurrect and update the previous Flash application (HTML graphics must be super-sized to look good on HD flat screens causing system lag issues). These decisions to start over from scratch three times hurt NxTV. At this point the company had lost it's founder and president of nine years, James Miles (no confidence vote by shareholders). The replacement president lasted only a year and was again replaced with another. With each management change, a new development cycle began without heed to lessons perviously learned or to obeying software documentation standards. New programmers receive a lapful of weclome to NxTV code pure code, without design or requirement documentation. The company moans with uncertainty. With each individual restructure came layoffs. Employees became disconcerted as hopelessness, aggravation and negativity spread amongst the staff."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Decide on an insightful plan, execute it correctly according to industry standards and stick to the original concept that began the process in the first place."
