Submit a Review"One of the things I love about being a UNIX Sys-Admin is performing proof of concept with newer cluster or storage technologies then being able to implement them into a live environment, it is almost like being able to build your own muscle car then take it out and show it off. One of the things I don't like is sometimes not having enough resources to efficiently administer the UNIX environment but this also allows me to become more creative and design my own solution."
"I would not trade my profession with another."
"I enjoy having challenging problems to solve."
"I pretty much love any form of work involving technology; however, contract work is essentially working without a safety net. The insurance tends to be poor (if available), there is typically no or little consideration given for holidays and vacation (where offered) is accrued at a lower than usual rate for IT professionals."
"I love solving complex problems and applying my knowledge to the betterment of systems performance. In addition, I love tinkering with new technologies and seeing what I can do to improve performance. Does anyone really like getting paged at 3 am in the morning"
"The work is fulfilling and challenges my intellect. I also enjoy discovering better ways to solve problems."

What do you like about working at IBM?
"Team members are intelligent, hard-working and supportive. Customer is rigid, difficult and demanding. There is little room for creativity."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Good place to rebuild a resume. Sometimes a good chance to hone a particular set of skills. Do not expect the institution to invest any time in training you on new skills or equipment."
What don't you like about working at IBM?
"The track we are on is to send more and more services off shore, whether or not the offshore workers are prepared to handle it. The teams we have are made up of good, motivated people, but there is currently no investment in team member's skills other than to meet minimum contractual requirements. I my current role, I usually have enough control over what tasks I do when. However, there are times when the workload can mushroom into large amounts of overtime or long hours crammed into narrow windows. While there is more than enough work to be done, IBM manages costs by cutting contractor hours at the end of the quarter, whether or not deliverables will be met. And they do so while instructing the staff not to mention the restrictions to the client."
What suggestions do you have for management?
