"I've worked at the university since May 2014, so my personal experience is quite limited. Naturally, the quality of the work environment for a student assistant depends largely on the professor for whom you work, and as such most of what I've marked above is a reflection of that dynamic with the professor, and not representative of all such jobs with the University of Alabama. Having said that, I have found it to be a positive work environment, though I am looking forward to a change."
"I've worked and studied in the University of Alabama as a PhD student and research assistant. UAB is a great place to study and work for anyone who is talented and self motivated."
"My experience at the university of Alabama was overall positive one, however, middling compensation, lack of advancement opportunities, poor upper-mid management, and less than stellar work facilities outweigh my excellent co-workers, direct supervisor, and workplace culture."
"I worked in the Advanced Robotics lab in Mechanical and Aerospace Department of UAH. It is a very good place for research in Robotics with up-to-date equipment and technology."
"Great opportunity for graduate students."
"Not an ideal place if you look for growth."
"Working as Graduate Teaching Assistant, I learned about professionalism."
"It's all about the benefits here. If you are professional staff without a PHD, you won't get compensated well for your work. Especially over time. That said, it is a very pleasant place to work. Walking on campus is beautiful in the fall and spring."
"I love teaching, and teaching college students was most preferred. The job gave me a chance to learn the material better compared to learning in the classroom. I wish I was paid better for the work I put into teaching, and sharing my techniques to learning. I was able to show my professors that I could share my knowledge with others, and was offered teaching positions at other schools due to my ability. Thanks for the opportunity to teach my peers. I really enjoyed teaching college freshmen."
"I worked as a research assistant (REU) last summer."
"I started at UAB as a temp in 2010 and was offered full time employment in 2011. As a state-run university, the benefits are excellent and the pay is very competitive. My advice to anyone seeking employment at UAB, particularly on the campus side, would be to do some homework regarding the departments (both administrative and academic.) Find out as much as you can about the work environment and the department leaders. As with with any company, some departments are better managed than others."
"Developed Financial model for the business plans. Forecasting financial growth of many start-ups. Market research for the start-ups."
"Good university and nice program to help you for the future."
"Great place to work for a summer internship with little experience needed."
"Great work environment for a summer temp/internship."
