"I've worked for Symantec since Altiris was acquired by them in 2007. They suffer from many of the same challenges as most major tech vendors (e.g., frequent management changes and difficultly driving a too-large catalog). But the middle/lower management layer is outstanding and the culture humane and inspiring. I'd happily return (again!)."
"Symantec used to be great."
What do you like about working at Symantec?
"The people. Everyone was knowledgeable, personable, and hard-working. Even when it was crunch-time and not as much fun, the company really stepped up and provided free lunches and managers gave extra afternoons off once the project goals were met."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Come across as intelligent, knowledgeable, ready to join the team, and prepared to work hard to make contributions."
What don't you like about working at Symantec?
"Some of the economic pressures made some raise questions about whether or not we'd be able to remain employed, which was stressful."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Keep it up. Stay in the loop as much as possible with what's going on with the larger company, and report that back to underlings to help keep people motivated."
"Symantec is a good company."
"I worked at Symantec from 1991 (as Software Engineer on Norton Utilities 6.0) to 2007 (Technical Director on pcAnywhere). Symantec changed dramatically over that time - first growing rapidly through a number of acquisitions, then consolidating around "security". Overall, Symantec was a great place to work. At the end of my tenure, I think it was having trouble finding its identity."
"Symantec creates market-leading security products. However, enterprise security has been lagging behind competitors such as ZScaler, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet in terms of growth. In addition, the enterprise products segment is being sold to Broadcom and creates uncertainty for employees."
"Good environment to work for."
"Great company to start career."
