"Spend some time at other schools. There is a big difference in philosophy between the various schools and districts."

What do you like about working at Sweetwater Union High School District?
"I enjoy the interaction with the middle and high school kids. It is very rewarding when they are appreciative of my knowledge and effort to enlighten them."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"You must be able to adhere to the system that does not allow a substitute teacher to have an opinion. In fact the majority of administration treat substitute teachers as if a substitute is NOT a teacher. This is in my case, ironic because I have two Bachelors degrees and studied my Masters program in Education. Finally, I feel that I am a gifted teacher as evidenced by the response of the students. It is very common for the students to say, Mr. Mendell you're back! I am able to connect to all levels of learners even the ones with disciplinary issues."
What don't you like about working at Sweetwater Union High School District?
"It is part-time, and too many substitute teachers in the pool. I never know when I'm going to work or what my income is going to be for that month."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Each school's administration is unique. Some school's administration are very geatful of our services while others treat us poorly. I believe that the teachers and administration should be treated like the private sector and everyone should be held accountable."

"Get to teach, work with children, satisfaction of seeing children succeed."

"Good luck and be sure to know all the rules and requirements explicitly."
What don't you like about working at Pasco County School District?
"Substitutes had little leeway in doing/using resources (e.g. computer, speaking to teacher about unfair treatment of children), getting interviews for teaching positions (age and, possibly gender bias), and I was unable to get substitute supv. and administrators to do observational references."

"Fair and professional treatment of all employees; not jumping to conclusions."

"I liked teaching children and being able to work close from home."

"I would know that it is temporary position that is off for the summers."

"It was close to my home and rewarding to teach."

"I would help have a consistent working plan for all temporary teachers."

"I can't say I find anything negative with my current job, I love teaching and I enjoy teaching my students."

"Everyday is different. Challenging. Not one day is the same."

"Lack of work. Do not get called often enough. Not hiring permanently."

"Would like to get called more. Hire more staff, aides."

"They are supportive and cooperative. They are also biased at times, not giving the employee enough credit."

"Be aware of the pay scale. Make sure you know what type of schools you're getting into before accepting a job."

"The pay is too low for what we do as substitute teachers. With our level of education, teachers need to be better compensated."

"I would pay the employees more and give benefits. Teachers are hard working people who have difficult jobs and who deserve to be treated well."

"Just be yourself during the interview. People don't like fake people."

"The lack of available jobs in the future and the difficulty of passing the exam to become licensed to teach. Also, the lack of help received from the college I went to."

"I really like the working schedule, it was perfect for my free school hours."

"Yes I do. I think in order to perform this job is just to be confident with the students and teach about our experience in school because they want to know how does it feel to be in college."

"Stress your educational level, love of children and eagerness to work with a diverse set of children."

"The chaos that usually happens when the children learn that they have a substitute. Also, when substitute assignments are disorganized or not left by the teacher."

"Half of the time, they really are clueless about what is going on in the individual schools."

"The focus of the interview centers around information required for national database searches and proof of credentials required by trhe State."

"The availability of documented processes and student information is very limited."

"Management should adopt a process that ensures consistency of emergency information for lockdown and emergency situations in classrooms."

"Gwinnett County is a very wonderful school system and has many benefits for the full time employees. The company cannot offer much, as it very budget conscience right now, due to the economy."

"For anyone who is thinking of working as a substitute, I would suggest that they be very patient and ready for anything."
What don't you like about working at Gwinnett County Public Schools?
"As a substitute teacher, it is difficult to answer this question because the field of education is totally different from any other business. It is not a business, it is an educational system, but run by the government/county. This question is difficult to answer because I am only part time and work 'on call'."

"I really don't have any suggestions for management as this is a county education system."
What do you like about working at Richland School District?
"Education is important work- and I enjoy working with students and teachers. Everyone has the capacity to learn and enjoy learning new things. There is a lot of wonderful things that this organization promotes and supports- and I am proud to be a part of the good work done with them."

"Have enthusiasm about what you are teaching and always be ready to present the material in fresh ways. It is always helpful also to have had some experience with groups of children and adults, and always be respectful... and have practiced public speaking skills."
What don't you like about working at Richland School District?
"The teachers and substitute teachers are hard working and need to be fairly compensated. The staff should be increased to provide a better student / teacher ratio - often the ideal classroom effectiveness suffers due to overcrowded conditions."

"The management does a good job, but there is always room for improvement in providing better support and training opportunities for the teachers throughout the year, and compensating them well."
